Negative dimension not opposite

$

I'm using a dimension to position a sketch feature along the X-axis.  Normally if I enter a negative value for a dimension it will flip the feature to the opposite side of the zero point.  However, for some reason that is not happening in this sketch.  A negative dimension stays on the positive side of the zero point.

Any ideas why this might be happening?  I really need this to work bi-directionallly, as this dimension will ultimately be driven by a relation that could have both postive and negative values.

Thanks for any help!

Show Modified Version attribute in ASN

In ASN, selecting a component and Ctrl+I shows the all information about selected component. Here I am concerned with the Modified Version attribute.

modver.PNG

Now I want to have this attribute to be displayed in ASN. I have created it with same name (Modified Version - as displayed in Information window) in Attribute Templates with default value as 0 then I added it to Assembly Navigator Properties.

modver1.PNG

modver2.PNG

No value gets displayed. When I go to component properties and choose Add New Attributes From Template, It adds default value of attribute to the column in ASN, In actual the Modified Version of the component is not zero. Here it takes the default value of the attribute.

Is it possible to display actual Modified Version values in ASN? If yes, what corrections are needed in the steps that I followed? I am trying this in Native NX.

Overcostraint in sketch and assembly

Hi,

I remember that there was a solutor into NX that starts on overcontraint sketch. Anyway, there are CAD, like SolidWorks, that on overcontraint sketch, start a resolutor to aid user to obtain a solution to remove a contraint that create the problem. On NX, how can I obtain by NX an help to find the solution ?

The same situation on assembly contraint.

The problem is often when I make support to collegues that have those problems.

Create a new view

Hi,

I have a part that has a plane 61° to the XZ plane. To create a drawing of this face, I want to create a view that shows the plane straight-on (i.e. perpendicular to the plane).

I can't find a way to do this: I have read that F8 performs this task but from what I gather this only snaps to the nearest WCS plane.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Alex

creating a FCF with horizontal text, flag leader - NX10

I'm trying to create a feature control frame for an angled surface, but I want the text to be displayed horizontally and not in-line with the surface.  But, when using the "feature control frame" button in the Annotation tab, the FCF is always in-line with the surface when using the Flag leader.  The second pic shows how I want the FCF displayed (horizontally); I had to fudge this with a sketched line and moving a FCF to be in-line with it.

I tried adjusting the lettering angle in settings (which didn't do anything), and I tried transform (ctrl + T) to no avail.

Is there any way to do this properly?

Thanks,

WRM

Equivalent to SE "Part Copy" in NX?

$

I'm new to NX (coming from SE) and am wondering if NX has an equivalent to SE's "Part Copy" command?  That command allows you to copy an existing part (associately or not; as a design body or construction body) into a new part file and modify it (if a design body) or use it as reference (if a construction body) for new geometry.  Very useful!

In SE I often used it to create a series of parts that were mostly the same except for some minor feature differences.  It was considered more robust than using SE's Family of Parts.

Thanks for any help.

Template Subassembly linked to Main Assembly

$

Dear Community,

i have a subassembly, which contains four expressions, say, length_a, *_b, width_a and *_b.
This subassembly i want to insert (add component) in my main assembly, in which the values of the four expressions are specified. Therefore i have to create somehow a dumb link between the subassembly and my main assembly, is this technically and practically possible?

- The main assembly is never the same
- Also, the subassembly contains parts which have to switched somehow by expressions (length_*)

Is there another way to create a template assembly driven by expressions?

Thanks in advance!

Hello

Sketch lines/circles are visible in "make displayed part" but not in assembly's "make work part" ?

  • Bug or error ?
  • I can see & create sketch lines and such normally in displayed part but when I go to the assembly and click "make work part" and then try to modify the same sketch they are suddenly not visible anymore ?
  • I can "Normal Cutout" them normally but I just don't see them in "make work part".
  • Happened to me first time. What did i do wrong ?

Front / side / top views are not correctly aligned (assembly)

Hello,

I've always started sketching parts by lining them up with one of the front, side, etc, planes. I've created an assembly and lined the first part up with absolute origin. This worked without problem and the drafting views were all as should be.

Now somehow, without knowing what I did wrong, the drafting views are angled. Is there a way of restoring / realigning the views?

Trouble adding knowledge enabled part

Hi, I'm trying to add a krx file in an NX/Teamcenter environment. I have followed the instructions in the manual

- Create krx file, from part with expressions
- Created a spreadsheet and added it within the krx file
- Set the driving parameters

Still when I add the part into an assembly via reuse library, I dont to change the parameters. On the file in teamcenter the spreadsheet does not show either even with refresh. If I try to add it directly to the part with drag and drop, I get some error message which goes away so fast I cant even print screen it.

Any suggestions what is wrong?

PS, spreadsheet is added is an attachment

How to change file name in file manager without errors in NX assembly ?

Hello

How to change the main assembly file name in Windows file manager without errors in NX assembly ?

  • My file manager says "can't change name because in use by another program" ?
  • If I succeed to change the file name will it corrupt the NX assembly ? Errors for example like: "NX unable to find part that and that...in assembly because file name changed". Possible ?
  • What is the proper way to change the main file name which contains: the assembly and parts ?

File example: C:\ *Assembly* \ Assembly.prt

XN CAD Certificate for Mechanical Engineer

Dear Siemens Team,

My name is Serhii and I would like to know about NX CAD Certificate.
How, when and where can I sign up for the NX certification?

Is it on-line exam or should I go to the class? Is there any chance to pass an exam remotely?
Which certificate is the best for mechanical engineer?
What should be prepared for that exam?

Sincerely,

Serhii

More control for dialog memory needed

$

I have created an ER that I think is useful for many customers.

For instance some dialogs don't use dialog memory at all, like the modeling hole dialog, so it is cumbersome to create holes of different depths based on vector, since you need to reselect this every time you hit apply.

If you would like to have more control over which dialog remembers its settings and size ask GTAC to be linked to ER#7963849 (control dialog memory for each dialog individually):

          ER Template
          -----------

* Short Description of desired enhancement: <Problem rather than a solution>
the is no way to enable or disable dialog memory for individual dialogues

 * What activity in your process is the product not able to currently handle?
we want to control the dialog memory for each dialog individually

 * What result are you trying to achieve? (Please provide as many details as possible.)
instead of relying on the internal management of dialog memory being saved within a session or across sessions, we want to control this on our own

 * Do you currently have a workaround?
    No

 * Do you have a proposal for the solution you envision Siemens PLM providing for this capability?
the global setting for dialog memory should specify the regular behavior of dialogues
each dialog should allow to specify its own memory option, like "remember across sessions" or "remember within session only"
in addition it should be possible to specify if the size of the dialog window is remembered or not across sessions or within a session

 * What is the level of productivity gained from such an enhancement?
    HIGH, usability and reliability

 * Other information:
keep the user from resetting dialogues that he would like to always start from scratch or the opposite
keep the user from resizing dialogues that are always to narrow and/or small when they are displayed

Thanks in advance for making NX a better product based on its community.

Simulating: placing and taking out tricky coverplates ?

$

Hello

Is there a way in NX to simulate taking out and putting in below sheet metal covers ?

  • These 2pcs covers made by me should have enough play to "slide in" and "out" easily when installed. To work.
  • If I make these pcs too large they are impossible to install.
  • Motor axle goes in to the center.
  • Wish I had 3D-printer. For these tricky positioning tasks.
  • Those angles kind of "lock it" in place and 2pcs screws tighten it.
