Vary constraint value in different arrangements

$

Hello,

I have an assembly with some constraints created between parts. I want to have the different value for the same constraint in the different arrangements. For example, In an assembly there two parts (simple blocks), I had created the two arrangements and a distance constraint with expression having value say 50mm.

In arrangement1 I want the distance constraint value as 75mm and in arrangement2 it should be 100mm. Is it possible to have different value for the same distance constarint in different arrangements?

Importing step files recipe

Hi Everyone!

I am completely new to this community, but I see that questions asked here are always very well replied, so decided I will try it out.

My problems is that I download CAD files from sources like GrabCAD and these are very often in step format. Since NX support several step formats (step203, step214 and step242), I dont now which version to chose and have to go through all of them until the part finally shows up. Is there somekind of recipe on how to do this or somewhere to find the format version?

Importing JT assemblies

Hi,

I am investigating NX as a possible replacement for Inventor.

One significant issue is being able to import legacy data.

Currently I am importing a JT file containing the assembly which works reasonably well apart from a couple of issues.

Firstly, I don't seem to be able to specify where the imported files are located, they just end up in the directory that the JT files are in. Is there a way to specify a destination folder? This is a part of the standard import settings in Inventor and it would be useful to be able to control how data is imported.

Secondly, all the files now have the suffix '_jt' added which is not wanted as we require the part numbers to remain the same.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Nick

Visual Overlay Drafting

Hi

I tried Viual overlay between two sheets of differnt part numbers

Both sheets have same Views with different dimensions alone.

I am interested in just highlighting the differences. But unfortunately it did not work.

Steps followed

1.Open the first part drawing file and Click on Visual Overlay Option

2.Create Overlay Data

3.Open the second part drawing file and Click on Visual Overlay Option

4.Click on ok to create the Overlay.

5.The difference has to get highlighted between 2nd and 1st (Already Created Overlay Data)

But it does not highlight the difference .

Please suggest where i go wrong or is the software do not work?

Thanks

When I try to start i'm getting this problem:

1st error: The Program can't start because xercess314.dll is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

2nd error: The procedure entry point ?CacheUserAtributesBasic@MethodicObject@OM@UGS@@UEAA?AVAttributeChangeResult@Attr@3@PEBV123@_N11PEAX@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library c:\Siemens\NX11.0\NXBIN\windowsui.dll

Does somebody know what is happening? It already worked after the update.

PMI Change Management

Hello everyone.

I have been introducing PMI at my company for thelast coupleof  years.

One of the main topics that I am facing is how to document a change when using only  3D model with no drawing. With a drawing we put change triangles on the drawing and this quickly denotes where the change happened.

Without the drawing if a feature is removed for example, how do you show this?

Do you use viewers and show differences between the models? maybe JT comparison?  do you change the PMI dim color, put them on different layers, copy to a change view? Etc.

These are the types of questions I am looking for.

I am looking for information on how other companies are handling this.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Bryan

Assembly constraints

Hello,

I'm trying to assemble a runout setup with vee-blocks. One of the vee-blocks is bigger in height, which also tilts the shaft slightly.

In Solidworks I could just select an edge of the vee-blocks and make a "touch" constraint, which made it possible to angle the shaft. I can't seem to do the same thing in NX 11.0.  I could create an angled constraint but that seems like a lot of work for what is supposed to be an easy to do thing.

So any advice on which constraints to use to make the shaft lay in both vee-blocks that alter in height?

Thanks in advance.

Constraining to the origin in a sketch

I'm new to NX, and I've noticed there are two coordinate systems available when locating or constraining geometry or dimensions relative to the origin (or X, Y axes for that matter) - the Sketch and Datum.  Is it considered better practice to use one vs the other?  I'm been using the Sketch CSYS, thinking that if copy or move the sketch later the sketch CSYS will come with it and constraints made to that will stay intact.  But maybe I'm mistaken, so I thought it worth asking the here before creating a bunch of sketches based on that assumption.  Also, if you don't use QuickPick, what is the default selection?  Thanks!

From one of the old threads on gears, John Baker shared these programs.  The GRIP I got to run, but not the user function.  What is the trick?

I've gone File, Execute, NX Open, browse to the .dll, and I am greeted with this error:

How do you exit a sketch while in the model enviroment, without keeping any changes that were made? Surely there must be a way, but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

Relative length constraint in a sketch?

The sketch below needs one more constraint to be fully constrained.  I could assign a dimension to "a" or "b", but what I'd rather do is set a relation between them (like a = 0.60*b).  Is there any way to do that?   I want to able to vary p0 (vertical height) and have all the sketch elements stay in the same proportion.  Thanks for any help with this.

How to make a new model to a existing assembly ?

Hello (Simple question)

How to make a new model to a existing assembly ?  (Inside the assembly)

  • Assembly->Create New, but what from there ? I'm not sure ?
  • Now the new model is in "work part" mode... I pressed Create Sketch, but how can I select a plane withing the existing assembly when everything is greyed out but only the newly created model ?
  • How to use the features of the existing assembly to create the sketches of a new model ?

Now:

  1. I make the model outside the assembly....(Without knowing how to use the existing assembly as a reference to create the model. So no reference from it. I just remember different measures from my notes and from my memory...)
  2. Then Add the model to the assembly...
  3. Then Move it to the right place.

I'm trying to revole some edges of a solid body but these edges are not all on the same plane. Because of this the result is a sheet body, but I want a solid body. How can I get a solid body from this operation?
