NX not responding intermittently

I have the latest NX 1851 on my machine, Win 10 Pro with 32 GB of RAM, running on an iMac. I switched from NX 12 to NX 1847 almost a month ago and never had a problem.

 

One week back, I had to move machines and license server, and for logistical purposes I couldn't be in the same building and same network as the license server, hence I borrowed my license from the server for a certain time and thought this would be okay.

 

But, after borrowing licenses my NX has been defaulting to 'Not responding' every now and then. I'd check in the task manager and it would have stopped responding. In layman's terms, it basically freezes up and will continue to do so for a while.

 

Any ideas on how should I go about solving it?

Hi,

 

I guess the keywords here are reference sets and layers.

But I am not sure how to do it... or do it effectively.
Move everything away from "Layer 1" and then only the bodies back to "Layer 1" !?

 

If I place a subassembly into a larger assembly, I do not want datums, sketches or anything weird to come along... just the visual assembly itself.

I know I can do a reference set... but by default the additional elements are still included... I have to pick another reference set to get rid of it.

 

Also... what about different color faces. If I pull someting into a new assembly I seem to loose all the colors that were assigned on the designed part.

I am sure expert users model everything and just before saving they do their thing so that the next guy only sees the right things.

Component Groups in DMU

Hello good people of the community,

 

I'm trying to use component groups to hide components in a DMU that I don't need at this point. To do this, I created an attribute for the comoponents (e.g.: dmu_valid; string) and in my DMU I've created a component group which excludes all components that have this attribute set to "N" so it hides all these components at once.

 

This kinda works but it's not exactly what I was hoping to get because I have to toggle the component group off/on for it to take affect when adding new components. Second thing is when a component is added, if I change the attribute it changes on a work part (assembly context) level, so the there is actually no change after toggling the group off/on again.

 

Does anyone know how to achieve this or if there is a completely different (better) method of doing this?

 

EDIT: Better solution would be to exclude the components with this attribute set to "N" from the reference set. How can it be done using Knowledge Fusion?

Secondary geometry

the red sub-assembly I would like to be dotted and show hidden component, that are in the rear side.

I thought to use secondary geometry without success. It's possbile ? Which settings ?

Allow Automatic Work Part Change in 1847 - Editing Features

I've been experimenting with creating and editing features in an assembly with the new Allow Automatic Work Part Change option and noticed that in order to select a feature to edit, the component must be fully loaded. However, this is not the case if you select an object in order to create a feature. For example, I can pick an edge on a component that is partially loaded then invoke the Edge Blend command. Is this by design? I find this behavior a bit confusing to be able to create features on partially loaded components but edit features only on fully loaded components.

NX Integration Teamcenter NX Launcher Issue

Good day esteemed comrade-in-arms,

 

I have the following challenge in the german speaking NX world with Teamcenter. The NX integration with the NX Launcher

In Germany the SIDT is used, as an environment a product of Siemens Germany for a standardized environment.

 

How do I integrate this environment into the NX Launcher and how do I integrate the Daimler environment?

Unfortunately I can't get any further with this help.

 

I have read the documentation online of NX12 and NX1847 and found some documents but none helped me. The solution about the env file is clear to me. I also got that I can control a NX12, a NX11, a NX1847 and a NX1851. But now I have several bat files which normally start my environment. How do I do this with the NX Launcher?

 

Usually we have have a Start ICon which starts the Start_Nx120.bat this starts the splm_nx120.bat and then the custom_NX120.bat.

 

So ho can i tell the NX Launcher to start a Batch File specific or is their only the way over ugII-env file?

Export assembly IN A SINGLE STP FILE NX12

Good afternoon,

if I receive an assembly from catia or solidworks in stp or igs Nx rebuild me the assembly tree like original. It's possibile to export from nx in only 1 file stp or igs with assembly structure?Sending to my clients 287 singles file instead 1 is not so nice....

Surface Manipulation - Interesting problem

Hi All,

I am looking for NX feature to manipulation surface.   Let me explain what I want to do.  Take a paper 2 inch X 2 inch. Crumple the paper with your hand. Now put on the floor. Try to strainghten one time and leave it.   I want to reproduce the wrinkles on a NX surface. 

 

NX surface should be created from smart point grid in the order of 0.01 distance between them( 100 point per Inch).  These points should be moved up and down individuallly to manipulate the surface.   What kind of approach/feature do you suggest in NX12?

 

I tried surface build by Splines ( using Thru' Curves Feature) and Xform Feature. Both are not really as flexible as I need. 

 

Experts, Let me know what kind of suggestion you have?

PMI Dimensions- Stacking Properties

Hello,

 

Has anyone had an issue moving PMI dimensions in a model and loosing the stacking properties? For example, having a PMI dimension associated with a PMI feature control frame. I will change my properties for the stacking, and if i move the dimensions afterwards, the stacking settings change back to original.

I executed the function OPEN COMPONENT FULLY, but the error still it.

Personal NX 11 License

Who out there is using NX 11 for personal use and has a personal/single license that lets you plot/print drawing files and export files as .stp or .iges?

 

I am using the NX11 Learning Addition, but want these additional capabilities for non-commercial use. How do I get that and how much does that cost?

NX attribute filtering

Hello everyone,

 

I would like to use Attribute filtering in NX, but I cant make it work. I already checked NX documentation but unfortunately did not find what I wanted.

More precisely, when I am in assembly, I would like to, e.g. select or hide all parts with custom attribute (let say Vendor or something "string") - when I press CTRL + B, then Attribute Filter, User Defined attributes I cant make it work, select all after that does nothing.

I am aware of other methods with advanced assembly license, but I would like to figure out how this attribute filtering works.

Re-using main surfaces in surface modeling

Hello NX Users,

 

I am doing a lot of surface modeling in NX recently, which I used to do a lot in Catia. I have noticed a difference, when I trim a surface the original surface can not be used for other operations any more unless I make a copy of it. Either by extracting body here or giving it an offset of 0.

Is this common practice in NX surface modeling?

Or does this have to do with timestamping? 

From my Catia backgound I am used to be able to use a base surface for multiple operations without having to copy it. Any insights on surface modeling in NX using styling an trimming surfaces will be very appreciated.

remove requirement from expression

Hello experts

 

I have added a Ceck to one expression using "Add a Check" - "New Requirement". Works fine so far.

But now I want to remove this Requirement from the expression and I just can't find out how this is supposed to be done.
