In drawing:

How to change the yellow colored projected views ?

  • Default color is blue grey.
  • I copied the views from a .dxf and they were yellow in color.

overbearing auto constrain

I am not sure if this is a question or a gripe, I can't imagine there is a setting to correct this.

I sometimes feel like the auto constrain in sketches is too much.

For example I have 2 points, I want to put a line between these two points.  I choose one point for the start and the other point for the end.  If the points are close enough to horizontal, NX will put a horizontal constraint on my line and actually NOT constrain it to the 2nd point since the points weren't actually horizontal, just close enough.  In this case, the software thinks it's preference is stronger than what i'm telling it to do.  I have models where I need to do this tens if not hundreds of times, and instead of just drawing a line point to point, I have to draw the line, then do an additional 2 steps, which is constrain point to point each end of the line.

Auto constrain is helpful to remain on for other features I need to create, but in this case I can't understand why it thinks I want horizontal when i'm literally choosing what to constrain it to

Hi,

i'm working with one JT part in drafting. The problem is that every line of this JT model is overlapping thru another parts.

I tried almost everything but i cannot find a settings that hide those lines behind it.

Delete face is not working with "heal" option

Hi Community

I notice a strange behaviour on the delete face command:

it will not work with the heal option on:

2019-02-19_11h32_03.png

then I uncheck heal --> delete face now opens my solid body but will run without error

then I check "heal" back on and it works as expected.

The Problem:

literally 6 more mouseclicks per operation :-(

Lines and Arcs in Sketch

Hello All,

Our users are having a weird issue when creating Lines and Arcs. We're currently using NX10.0.3 MP19.

When a line and arc are created and showed with a point in the sketch, the lines look straight and through. If zoomed in, the lines are off centered. this issue isn’t such a big deal when it comes to prints because it isn’t noticed. Where this becomes a problem is when the pattern is exported as a GEO for our lasers. If the lines aren’t straight, the Trumpf software detects it. Any recommendations are much appreciated. Please see attachments for examples.

Best Regards,

Jared

Is it possible to wave link a reference curve? I think that capability use to be available, but I can't get it to work in NX11. I hope there's a way, as I could really use it right now. Thanks!

NX quicksheet template

Hello all,

is it possible to create a drawing template in NX with "pre-saved" views so when I make draft of similar component I dont have to waste time on creating views etc.

In Solid Edge there is an option to create Quick Sheet template for that purpose, but I cant find a way to do that in NX.

I already tried to make drawing of component with base views and then mark it as template but it does not work on different component.

Any suggestion is welcome. Best regards !

NX9 export to step doesn't respect face colors

Hi all,

Got a problem today exporting to step. I imported a step file to NX to do some modifications and all I changed were the color of some of its faces. Exporting this file again to step (with another name, directory, etc) all the faces I modificated appear again in the default color, so it's like if nothing have changed.

No idea about what's going on. I have also tried moving the faces I want in different color to another lawyer, but this doesn't result neither. Any idea?

Thanks in advance

List Expression Lookup Table

Hi,

Im looking to make a lookup table (Like in Excel) using a List Expression. (See attachment) So if i say variable X=4 then Y=0.8 and Z=2 where my list array has a list of X's and i then link the value of Y to the second column of the list array and Z to the third column.

Is this possible and how can it be done?

Thanks

Migrating plotters to new version

Working on moving from NX11 to NX1847, and I've been told you should update the plotter files when moving to a new version.  Currently, we are using the NX9 plotter files, so I ovbiously skipped that step last time Smiley Happy

Is there a good method to do this, when you have a number of printers/plotters already setup, to avoid starting from scratch? ie, can I copy certain files, that contain our specific setups?

or is it ok to just stick with the NX9 stuff?

Break-Out Section Hides Component in View - NX11 Drafting

$

I am trying to create a break-out section on a base view of an assembly. I imported the base view and everything looked as it should, with none of the components hidden. Then, on the far left side of the assembly view, I created my closed sketch around the area of interest and started to set up my break-out section. Everything worked fine until I hit the "Apply" button. Once I did, the break-out section was generated as expected, but a component on the right side of the parent view (nowhere near the broken-out portion) suddenly disappeared.

The missing component is still visible in other views, but not in the break-out section view. I've tried to make it visible again by adding it and removing it from the "Non-Sectioned" and "Hidden Components" categories, but to no avail. The only way I have gotten the component to reappear is to delete the break-out section.

Has anyone else dealt with this kind of thing? Why is my break-out section hiding other non-sectioned components that are in the same view?

Independent WAVE Links

Independent WAVE Links can be created by:

1) Right clicking on part in assembly navigator> WAVE> Copy Geometry to Part and linking geometry into part not loaded in current assembly.

2) Loading destination part in Assembly and using 'WAVE geometry linker' tool to link into part with 'Make Position Independent' option toggled on.

Are there any differences in link behavior using each of these methods? One better than the other?

Export assembly containing deformable parts to Step

If I have an assembly that contains a deformable part and then I edit the deformable part so I change his geometry at the assembly level (I deform it) when I export the assembly to step the shape of the part is the original shape. Is there an option to export the assembly that contains deformable parts with the parts "deformed"?

Constraint: Multiple section

Lets say that I have 100 small surfaces and 1 large surface;

I want to apply "touch" constraint between the small faces and the large one. Now I am selecting individually one by one the small surfaces and touch them to the larger one.

Is there any way to make a multiple selection of these small surfaces and touch the to the larger one?

Thank you in advance.

Odd behavior with Sweep along Guide

For some reason when sweeping a section along a guide string, the section will occassionaly "come off the guide" and create some really bizzare looking shape. I haven't been able to figure out what causes it. The section and guide are pretty simple shapes. A rectangle section swept along a guide string compose of tangent lines and circular arcs.  Does anyone have any idea why this happens?  I encountered it several times yesterday, so I thought I would post about it to see if I get to the bottom of it. It also happens with variational sweeps.

Thanks for any help.

Community supported NX on Mac / Linux?

$

Hi all,

I am a newbee here, having been drawn to the site after searching for information on NX for Linux & not getting a huge amount of hits.

I know that Siemens is dropping support for NX on Mac & Linux after 12, but was wondering if anyone felt that a community supported NX was a possibility going forward?

There must be a considerable amount of NX users out there that have gone beyond the software's support dates & these still obvious function..so....

1. Can we determine the amount of these users as a total number & a percentage of NX design seats out there?

2. Can we gather information on the users experiences WRT being out of support? How helpful have the forums / community been in resolving any issues?

3. No. of seats of Windows vs Mac vs Linux users for NX design & versions being run.

4. Windows, Mac & Linux versions being used as OS for running NX design.

5. No. Mac / Linux systems being utilised overall (this will enable us to determine if the main reason for running Windows is purely to enable the continued use of Windows only programs (mainly other CAD/CAE systems I would presume))

6. If a dual booter or dual machine person - which is major machine & why?

This should help get a better picture of how people want to use their machines & organise their workflow & if Siemens, along with many others, have mimssed this.

I would suggest that there are alot of people who use Windows because they have no choice when it comes to certain software categories - & unfortunately, Design & Engineering seems to be one of the biggest culprits even though these users are the ones who require the fastest, most stable machines which currently, is pointing in completely the opposite direction to Redmond....

If you asked people.....

"If it was your money, which OS would you run", I seriously think that the majority would opt out of the MS corner (if they had used anything different), as long as they knew that they could receive support for the software / hardware they were running going forward at the same or less cost.

For mere mortal users, that will mean relying upon the community.

For corporate users - well with a team of IT staff to call upon, all that needs to happen is that the trained MS "Engineers" or VAR support teams will have to learn a few different tricks & life will carry on as usual.

And if the response is such that it appears that support for NX on Mac/Linux would be increasing going forward including into Corporate areas, this may well nudge Siemens to reconsider or offer a discounted community supported locked (or maybe 1 version behind a Win version) NX going forward..

Either way, what has anyone got to lose?

populate title blocks individually

$

Hello experts

I am wondering whether it is possible to populate title blocks individually rather than having all blocks updated simultaneously.

I am using “New sheet” - “Use Template” and select my own template (one and the same) for all different drawings which I add to my part. But I have the need to assign different drawing numbers and names to each. If I use “Populate Title Block” and modify the value of one field then all title blocks are modified alike. This behavior does not make sense to me.

Is there any option to break the simultaneous update across all title blocks?

Thank you for your estimated ideas.

In my Sketch, p10=1 and is Active, p11=30.2 and is Reference (p11 Active will make Sketch overconstrained)

Now I want to Swich !!!

I want RoundUp(p11)=31 to be Active and p10=...... to be Reference !

Is that possible ?
