How to change sketch orientation

$

I'm new to NX11, and I can't figure out a way to adjust the references (sketch orientation X/Y/Z) easily.  In NX 9, when you selected a plane to sketch on you could hit a button that switch the X, Y or Z direction to +/- so that the sketch was oriented in the direction that made sense.  It seems to be much more difficult to do that now.  Is there a way to go back to the NX9 version of sketch creation?

measurement, then "display views" bug ?

I have a large assembly open.  I measure something between 2 parts within the assembly.  This is just a measurment for my own curiosity so once I see the value, I cancel the measurement.

NX does something where it starts churning, and the status bar says something like "displaying view" , or "displaying all views" and whatever this is, this takes 5 minutes or more sometimes, and after this happens sometimes it ruins my session, it runs like crap.

This happens to lots of other people here and everyone is working on different assemblies.

Anyone famaliar with this bug ?

FYI - "Bounding Body" Unstable in Clone, Make Unique & Re-use: BEWARE

Is anyone else having trouble with this???

The "Bounding Body" becomes dis-joint from the target body in what "appears" to be random conditions.

It moves in both position and size... making it impossible to use it for dimensional reporting.
Ex: Placing Associative measurements on it and dragging the values into a parts list.

I've only been able to duplicate the error using "Update For External Change"

If the Body is in visually good order and reporting correct sizes...
Run Update for External Change, the body shifts, reporting bad dims.
**But you get no failure notification**

Suppress / Unsuppress corrects it
Re-selecting the target body also corrects it.

I have an IR in on this that's been rolled into a PR

If anyone else has had issues with this please reach out.
It's a critical failure in NX's ability to reliably report dimensional data from Stock Bodies to a parts list.

I've got an extensive library of Re-Use parts that are built on this method.
They are a nightmare to stay on top of... constantly failing and needing to be fixed.

This also effects the Tooling Wizard Tool "Stock Body"
That tool shares code with "Bounding Body" and fails in the same conditions.
But it's invisible on the graphics screen and not on the feature tree.... that makes it and even more insidious problem.

TIA for an feedback

etching / text line thickness

Does anyone know how to control the line thickness of text (etching) on solid parts?  We use etching a lot for sheet metal and the end result is random thickness.  Some parts are thin, others thick.  The thicker ones end up too blotchy to be read in drafting.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi SIEMENS NX CAD Users,

I am new to SIEMENS product and solutions. Kindly guide me, how to show the expression annotation names in graphics windows.

Kindly find the attached model for your reference. (as like below image - dimension)

Reason: user can easily identify the annotation names and move further.

Thanks in advance.

How to go back to sketching plane ?

Hi SIEMENS NX CAD Users,

Let say you have rotate the model in sketch environment. How we can go back to sketching plane.

Looking for a tool which to go back to sketching plane (normal to- parallel to the sketching plane).

Note: Workaround: Select the planar face and press "F8", it will orient the view normal to the face normal. This works in the modeling environment.

Hi,

I have some drawings with section views that use Perspective=> Back Clipping. I want to sketch something on the view (right click on the view=> Active Sketch View), but the lines/sketch is not shown.

Is there a way to get this to work?

I'm using NX 10 and 12.

How to hide the referenced "Linked Body" ?

Hello ( Body shows up in the drawings )

How to hide the referenced "Linked Body" from appearing in drafting ?

- If IHide it the body will still be visible in the drawing sheet.

  • Linked Body(0)- MouseButton3- Hide. In drafting the body still shows up when making the drawings.

- If I Uncheck it all the features will be gone.

Assembly constraint behavior... why???

$

Hello,  As usual, I'm attempting to assemble components.  I have put up with some irritating behavior of the software and typically just try to get passed it, but I'm wondering if there's an actual fix for this.  Specifically for this time, it's with Cycling the Last Constraint when I'm assembling a component.

When I'm in the middle of assembling a component, I'll have a few accepted/correct constraints set already and then I'll go to setting the last constraint.  Very often when setting the last constraint, I'll have to cycle through the last constraint to get the desired result.  I'll eventually get there by selecting the "Cycle Last Constraint" button and stepping through the different options it gives.

Now to my specific question:  When stepping through the "Cycle Last Constraint" options given, why does NX consistently give an option that results in "Inconsistently Constrained" icon being shown?  Why does NX give the option when it's wrong?  One would think that it would just skip that option since that option is inconsistent.

Am I doing something wrong?  Is there something I can set so that it won't give those wrong options.  One would think that if it knows enough to display the inconsistent option, it would be logical to think "Well, that option isn't going to work, so I (as NX) won't even give that as an option."  This wastes a lot of time stepping through options that NX even lists as bad.

Another irritating thing closely related to this:  When going through the "Cycle Last Constraint" options, I'll pick the one that I think will work, but the "Inconsistently Constrained" icon continues to show in the Constraint Navigator until after I hit OK.  It seems that I have to commit before the "Inconsistently Constrained" icon goes away.  That's a pain if I get it wrong.

I don't recall this happening in NX10.  Is there a setting that I need to change?  (It's like when patterning components and the preview is usually wrong.  The pattern preview does not show the correct quantity or spacing.  I guess the preview screen is primarily there to let you know the general direction that the pattern is going.  I only listed this different topic in case they are related.)  Thanks

Problem with section / section line offset

Hi,

I want to create a section of the (sample) construction shown below. In the section I want to show the transfer wall and what is directly behind it, but not the next wall. To do this I placed the section line and set offset of the section line to 500. Section A-A shows the L-profiles, but the (highlighted) longitudinal wall is not showing.

It looks like only bodies that are completely between the section line and the section offset are shown. Bodies that are only cut by the offset are not shown.

Is there a way to get the result I want? Backclipping might be a way, but it is not a very user friendly feature.

Assembly Constraint Behavior.... why??? (Part 2) (Center Constraint)

$

Hello, While dealing with the other stuff that I listed in the previous post, I just now noticed some strange behavior with the "Center" constraint.  I had constrained a part using three constraints and one of them was the Center constraint.  It failed, which wasn't surprising, but what was surprising was that it was the Center constraint.  All I had to do was do a "reverse" for the Center constaint and the failure was resolved.

When setting the Center constraint, I was using the "1 to 2" subtype.  For selecting the "2 features", does it matter what order I select the 2 features?  I don't recall this being a problem or factor in NX 10, but it appears that the order that I pick the 2 features determines how the part is oriented.  Is it supposed to be that way?  Again, I didn't notice this in NX 10.  Thanks

Minute challenge in make symmetric

Hi SIEMENS CAD Users,

Within sketch geometry, it’s possible and easy to make symmetric. But if it is referred from part, bit challenge to make symmetric.

Herewith I have attached part file to exercise the content. (go to sketch 3 in part)

I’m looking forward to your reply.

Note: workaround – add point – we can achieve make symmetric.

How to set the rotate point permanently

Hello Friends

Nx Version : Nx 9 / Nx 11 both Teamcenter Integerated.

If we are setting the Rotate Point by Ctrl+2 or Right click then even after saving the file, if the file is closed  and reopened again we need to set the Rotate Point.

Is there any options to get out from this hurdle.
