change knot parameters of studio spline

$

In building a multi-segement Studio Spline (By Poles), NX would place knots on the spline automatically. I wonder whether there is a workaround to change the knot parameters of an editable and associative studio spline (by poles).

With Fit Curve I know I can use a template curve to control the knot placement on the resulting curve. But Studio Spline apparently does not provide the template option.

I know SNAP can do the job, but recently very busy and unable to find time to learn more about SNAP.

If it looks impossible in interactive NX, please simply ignore this post. Thanks!

Understanding Through Curve Mesh

Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to produce smoother surfaces using Through Curve Mesh and would like some help understanding the tool.

My model is an aerodynamic body for which I want to minimize drag by achieving the smoothest and most continuous surfaces possible. The model will eventually be used to create a mold.

The component I want to focus on right now is the nose of my model (see photo). In an attempt to increase smoothness, I've added several guide curves. I've tried surfacing in small pieces (looks terrible). A single surface utilizing all these curves appears to be the smoothest. However, I don't know if simply creating dozens of guide curves is the route to the smoothest surface. I draw each spline manually, so I imagine with each addition, there is more potential for unintended deviations from the desired shape. I am picking consistent directions for my primary/cross curves (I think).

I read a post here that said one method is to surface to the line of symmetry, make the surface G1 with an extrusion at the line of symmetry, and then mirror. This also seems to provide a pretty smooth surface. However, I'm not sure I really understand the implications of making my model G1 at the nose. I've been striving for G2 at all other edges as a principle, but when I make the nose G1, it still "looks" relatively smooth/continuous.

So I guess I have the following main questions:

1. What are some practices to achieve the smoothest surfaces (within the limits given by the overall shape of my overall model)? Do I just have to draw better splines?

2. What are the implications of having G1 connections when I (think) I want G2?

Any general information regarding Through Curve Mesh would also be gratefully received. Thank you!

Hi all,

I have recorded a macro in NX10 to change the load options revision rule automatically whenever the user clicks on it. I adopted a button and macro in the NX Gateway  and  is running successfully in my system. I want to rollout this macro to all the users.  I am planning to adapt a script inside the  NX customized role.

Can you please help me how can I adapt the script inside the role so that the script looks for the macro and the button.

Thanks in advance.

Reflect Component

I've been reviewing the 12.0.2 updates and have not been able to invoke the new Reflect Component command. I don't know the default path so I'm using Command Finder. With the Modeling and Assemblies applications active, Command Finder states "This command is availalble in the Gateway application." So, I activate Gateway and Command Finder states "The command is not available."

The docs simply state Assemblies as the application. Is there another license required? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

Whenver a user opens an NX assembly, its opening as "Modified" eventhough he/she pening it for first time, if he save it will go away. but when he opens it again it will come back

1. we tried corretcing camera positions, views, cleaning up parts, updating assemly structre but no solution.  this is happening in Teamcenter and Native NX as well

NX 11.0.2.7 MP9

Windows 7 Pro

I have been using and developing Moldwizard standard parts for my company since UG version 18 and have never had this problem.

When I want to insert a standard part, 2 things happen -- the dialog box comes up, and a preview bitmap.

Suddenly the preview bitmap has disappeared! Not only on my home office borrowed license computer, but my company work station also.

At my company, there is a network location for all standard parts. No other user has this problem! -- we are all pointed to the same location!

It also happens when I try it in NX 9 which is the last version we used!

I have tried everything, and can't figure it out!

A Windows 7 thing????

Any help would be appreciated!

autocad import wizard spesific question about

$

Hello Dear friends im writing with a very specific question about the way you can import autocad drawings in the drafting environment of Siemens NX 10

The firm that I work for has about 2000 drawings made in autocad 2000 that where made almost 20 yeasr ago.they are still used in manufacturing today.the query that happens from almost several years is this.we now completely use Siemens NX 10 in all our manufactuiring so I have tried many times to import an autocad drawing in to the drafting environment of NX and it works with one huge distadvantage. The system doest not recognize the text in the drawing because it uses a specific autocad font file called CYRILTLC.SHX.

I have looked up inside the documentation and what I have fount solved the problem in half

2018-07-28_093210.png

I have found this particular page wich explains why NX doest not recognize the fonts

I have found the environment variable in the document where the path that these specific autocad fonts are put is described

2018-07-28_093227.png

When I have opened the dat file inside is the path

2018-07-28_093239.png

And I have copied all autocad fonts to this folder on mu computer

2018-07-28_093253.png

I have opened a random drawing in autocad to see if the drawing’s text should appear as exspexted and it did

2018-07-28_093302.png

(for copywrite reasons I cant show the whole drawing but the point is simple)

Now when we move to the import wizard in Siemens NX 10 even there in the preview window the drawing is recognized like in autocad

2018-07-28_093311.png

It is recognized but when the importing itself is finished here’s what happens

2018-07-28_093321.png

It did not import the drawing text correctly

Even if I followed everything I have found on the help that could lead me to some solution

The question is

IS THERE A WAY TO DO THE IMPORT AND EVERYTING TO BE RECOGNISED IN THE IMPORT WIZARD.thatk you a lot for everything

NX View Boundary Defaults

We use NX 11 with TC integration. When I create a new drawing, it defaults to displaying a view with a boundary. I know that this can be turned off in drafting preferances (for each specific file) but is it possible to set this as a default? Or is this setting a part of the seed file?

Another Parasolid oddity

this funny geometry cropped up in one of my parts, I don't remember how.

It contains isolated edges, that cannot be deleted by Delete Edge, nor are they

seen as sheet boundaries.  The only way to get rid of the strange edges is removing

all boundaries altogether.

This thing passes Examine Geometry with flying colors, yet it looks much like

a non manifold geometry.

Linking datum coordinates of point features to a table in Drafting

$

Is there any way to link the X, Y and Z datum coordinates of a Datum Point to an automatically updating table in Drafting? I know its possible to do with the absolute coordinate system coordinates using the "=Point()" formula in Excel. Hopefully, theres a "=PointC()" formula or something I dont know about.

I have about 50 control points and every time a minor adjustment is made to the model, I have to go in and manually update the coordinates of every point. Any help is appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows where I can find a list of Excel formulas linked to NX, that would be great

Hello All,

I tried to open a large assembly from teamcenter in NX. I get an error in NX like  "An operation was attempted on an invalid or unsuitable OM object".

I tried to search inside the community. But I was not able to figure out with the solution. Can you please help me with the solution. Thanks in advance.

help deforming surface

Imagine you have a ruffled potatoe chip that you can lay flat on a table, and it still has the ruffles just not the large curls, if you can call them that.

I have this shape, already defined.  I now need to put the curls in it, or lift some parts off of the table to create the chip.

I have been looking and it seems like realize shape is the tool to do this, but I cannot figure out how to create a cage (?) on to my already created shape.  It seems like you need to actually create the shape inside realize shape, is this correct?

I have a flat potato chip and a set of points in space that I want to deform the chip up to.

NX12.0.2 Reverse Engineering Ribbon Missing Commands

Hi all,

I just updated to NX12.0.2 and noticed that many of the Facet Body Operations commands are missing from the Reverse Engineering ribbon, and other commands have moved. Reloading my role file didn't help.

A picture is attached showing the difference (top image is from NX11 as I'm un-installing 12.0.2 right now, because I need that ribbon group this week for a demo).

Has anyone seen the same with 12.0.2?

Thanks Carl

WAVE references warning

occasionally we will get an informational warning message regarding wave links, that refers you to the Teamcenter Integration section of the customer defaults.  Looking into this more, trying to figure out if its set the way we desire, or not, and the pop-up tip isn't overly informative, and for that matter, I could be in the wrong section.

First, IS this what the warning is refereing to?

ScreenShot.JPG

and if so, am I interpereting this right...

Item Revision to Item, would tie the link between the particular Item Rev I am working on, to the Item (latest revision?).  VS. Specific Item Rev (dataset) to specific Item Rev (dataset)?

Thanks!

continuity within a multi-segment spline-II

$

In a previous thread,  and  gave very helpful comments on the topic of continuity within a multi-segment spline.

For a multi-segment spline, there is:

 Contituity (intenal continuity?) = m (degree) - r (multiplicity)

In most splines without shrinked segments, the multiplicity of middle knots should be 2. Therefore it's easy to judge the internal continuities C1, C2, C3 ... with the equation above.

If a spline is divided at its middle knots, the continuity between the reulting B-curves is often like G1, G2, G3 ...

Is there any definite relationship between these two types of continuity Cx vs. Gx?

Thanks!

Updating db_partname in a part family?

Early on in the switch to NX, we had some part familiies created in haste, and without much (any) experience with them.  I'm going back over them, trying to see if I can salvage them.  One of the things I need to change, is the part name, ie db_part_name.  Is that possible?  First attempt didn't change anything, maybe as dba?

As you can see, a name of "-23" isn't very helpful.
