Studio Surface always non-rational?

 wrote in a previous threads conic vs. spline:
NX in general will create a non-rational spline, that is the weight of each control point (pole) is the same.
 
NX can handle rational splines, for example if created in another CAD system and imported via IGES. 
 
Also some of the Section Surface functions will create rational surfaces.
 
I wonder whether the statements below are correct or not:
 
1. Isoparametric curves of surfaces created by Studio Surface always are non-rational splines.
 
2. Isoparametric curves of sufaces created by Edge Blend with Conic shape might be rational splines, just as some surfaces created by Section Surface.

Object creation is currently locked

Hi All,

we had one problem with one part in nx.

one user tried to open this part (2d part) to do something or to save it again but unfortunaltely it showing an error that the object creation is currently locked.

I think, there is/are attribute/s was/were locked. According NX no problem with the software because we tried this on another 2 PCs.

I tried to find out where i could to change this attribute/s until the user could again save it or edit it later.but nothing worked.

 

Could you please give me your advices?

Custom hem flange

Hello everyone!

Need to build a sheet metal feature that basically looks like hem flange but has a non-OOTB cross-section. Mo make matters worse, the feature has to be located on a cylindrical basic shape. Can it be done somehow?

Bad candidate passed for chaining

Hi, I'm encountering a unique error and wondering if it's fixable without having to remake my entire part. Part file and screenshot attached.

 

I am using Through Curve Mesh. When I select a certain edge as a cross curve, I get the error "Cannot add to section: Bad candidate passed for chaining." I've made this surface several times before in similar part files and have never encountered this. I just want to understand the nature of the error. Could it be related to the shape of this particular edge? 

 

I can provide more info on what I'm trying to do if necessary. Thank you!

Reset Front View to new orientation

Hello,

 

I have a 3D model part I am working on, when I select the Front view in 3D modeling is model does not orientate as I would desire.  Is there a way in NX 10 to place the model on the screen to what I want the fron view to be and then some how update the front view to reflect my desire?

Topology Optimization setup in the Topology Opt Frustrum Designer Application

Hi Guys,

 

we are trying to get our first simplyfied TopoOpt done with the Frustrum addon.

This was selected because of the smooth shape one would get if done.

 

Task is simple - we have this gear fragment with a channel inside.

The tooth area and the lower area (grey) shouldn't be touched by the optimization.

For starters only the area in the middle sould be the design area.

Here you can see the areas:

We managed to glue the parts together.

Now there are the "optimization features".. this is basically just the split channel.

In the design area we selected all the channel segments as optimization features and choose "shell" with some offset value without constraint.

For the lower "no design area" body (shaft area) we selected the channel segments as optimisation features and chose "out" with no values exept that they are fixed.

 

For the upper "no design area" body (tooth) we selected the channel segments as optimisation features and chose "out" with no values and basically a free constraint.

 

We are currently troubled to map a fixed constrained to the cylindrical area or a force to the upper tooth body.

In the manual they say you could only put those boundary conditions on features so this is why we tried to get this mapped on the channel itself.

 

Is there even a way to do this in the frustrup app?

Combine common edge of many faces

Hi everyone,

I drew 3 faces with a common edge. When I export to drafting and bring it to Adobe Illustrator to decorated it. I found that this common edge has 3 curves overlapping with each other. I used Sew tool to combine the edges but only 2 faces combined (magenta and blue faces) and the common edge still had 2 curves when I exported to Adobe Illustrator.

Is there any other solution to combine common edge of my 3 faces?

Dear all,

does anyone have solution for this situation? How can I make cover for shown empty space among this two bended sheet metals as I did for this flat easy sheets before and after them? Please, look at the picture in attachment.

Divide > Select Locations to Divide

It's good to have a Trim Curve command with Divide option. But there is one thing I can't understand.
 
With the bounding objects specified, why does Divide option ask  for "Select Locations to Divide"? What's the difference between bounding objects and locations to divide?

Export curves to parasolid.

Hello,

 

Does anyone know if there are any plans to export curves, in addition to solid and surfaces, to parasolid format from NX?

 

I  just imported a parasolid file from other software into NX and there are lines and arcs along with solids and surfaces.

Smart lightweight views

Hi,

I've some problems using smart lightweight views.

  1. A section smart lightweight view show components that don't be showedsv.png
  2. If I add exploded tracelines, when I switch to the drafting doesn't update, I need to convert to exact and then to smart lightweight view

I read the limitations from exact to smart lightweight view, but my cases aren't mentioned

Hole table - Threaded hole description

I would like to change the description of the threaded holes in the table. Now NX automaticaly writes the metric and the pitch I want NX to automaticaly write the metric but not the pitch for coarse threads but that still keep the pitch for fine threads. Is there a way to change that?

Syncrofit Feedback and opinion

Hello all!

 

We are loving NX here at my company. We are exploring the pro's and conns of installing Syncrofit, and we are looking for the following feedback from anyone out there that has been through a setup. We design aircraft, and use specific stuff. We like the 2 day class from Siemens but we are little concerned about the setup and getting going cost.

 

1. Where to get good hardware CAD library of the items we need (about 24 specs total).

2. How much setup time does it take.

3. How much IT resources does it need.

4. If you are using it, can we take a quick ship to ship phone call to discuss the pro;s and conns

5. We are little concerned that we are strapping our horse to this cart, and people will have to know what they are doing in there to make changes later....thoughts?

 

ANY information from ANY client is extremely welcome. Thanks people!!!

How to define maximum length for note

Hello, I need to define the maximun length of a note so that it will start a new line to fit into a cell.. The name attribute is automatically mapped from Teamcenter. It is the name of the item revision. 

 

The way the titleblock created is a table and notes are placed in the cell. We don't edit cell. 

 

Sometimes, the name is long and will go out of cell. In other CAD, I can draw a box for text that define the line size in order to start a new line. But NX, in the dialog, it put everything in first line until you hit ENTER...

 

So the cell can hold 30 character, for example, where can I change the note length so that it will start a new line?

How to control drawing dimensions before and after

Dear Community

 

I was used to work with drawing dimensions in the following ways:

A) doubleclick a dimension, hit "2" or "3" on my keyboard and changing the dimension precision accordingly, done!

B) doublecklick a dimension, hit "i" and inherit dimension style from another neat dimension on my drawing

 

now we're on NX 12 and I find, they must have changed the control for this. Other keyboard shortcuts were not changed.. has anybody got an idea on how to bring back a quick access via keyboard for this?

[NX 12] Ordinate dimensions create extension line at origin

Good day,

 

I'm running into an issue and I can't seem to figure out how to solve it.

In previous versions I can't recall this happening.  It started in NX 12.

 

When creating an ordinate dimension, I can select a previous origin to add new dimensions from the same origin.  That still works fine.

But when I add new dimensions, NX creates an additional extension line at the origin, and I can't hide or delete it because it hides/deletes the dimension I want to keep as well.

 

See attached:  I have selected one of my ordinate dimensions, and you can see that it also selected the additional extension line that is coming from the ordinate origin.  It treats them as if they're both parts of the same dimension.

 

Is there a way to turn the origin line off?  I can't seem to figure it out.
