routing library instance

Hello,

I was working on a piping model and until this morning everything was fine.

Then I open my model and some routing components are not opening.

message was "failed to find file using current search option, part left unloaded"

I have not changed any load options, and when I try to insert the same component again (and some others components) I get a message saying "Unable to establsih family instance p10330"

it seems like the problem is not for all components, but I can't find a logic behind this.

I'm looking in directory "C:\Users\poieri07\AppData\Local\Temp" and the parts that are there are open in my model are there, but obviously, the parts I'm having problem with are not there.

Any advice on how to fix this?

License error 10097

Hello,

I have a problem with license in NX12.

I was looking for something about this bug on the forum and I found it was the fault of the license server version. Unfortunately, I currently have the latest version 8.2.5. The generated log from lmtools shows that there is a problem with hostid:

[...]

Licenses are case sensitive for ugslmd
14:33:34 (ugslmd)
14:33:34 (ugslmd) Wrong hostid on SERVER line for license file:
14:33:34 (ugslmd) C:\Program Files\Siemens\PLMLicenseServer\CAM_12.lic
14:33:34 (ugslmd) SERVER line says COMPOSITE=2B6522895CA1, hostid is COMPOSITE=92ECF79A7467
14:33:34 (ugslmd) Invalid hostid on SERVER line
14:33:34 (ugslmd) Disabling 1 license from feature NX10450(08A9 465D 27E3 C01D )

[...]

I tried stop/start server and reread the license file, but everything is ok.

In the license file, I have the name of my computer as the server name. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Approach for design product, modification, mold design in NX - Sketch or not?

Hello everyone,

I work in Mold department in one Automotive company who produce plastic products for Cars :

I have expereince with Solid Edge as Design Engineer and now I have learned fast NX, Solid Edge and NX are very similar and that is good.

I have never before worked in Mold department and NX is mostly good for Mold . In my department no one use Sketch in NX when they create new part design, or when they make modification on part.

I have never worked on that way, always with sketch in Solid Edge and now also I know work with Sketch in NX but Enigneers in Company use another approach for design new product like :

for mirror they use : (Transformations,

for making ribs : (Block, move Object, Offset Region, Replace Face.

or (Block, move Object, Offset Region, Subctrate)

When they want to create new part on product , they use Block

Instead Linear pattern they use : Move object ( distance, Specify Vector, Copy Original)

Ctrl+B - as Hide another part and work on another part

My question is : is that mostly approach for NX for design new products, modification and also for mold designers or it that complicate way for approach to design new part or not in NX without Sketch, Datum Plane, Rib, etc?

They want from me to work on that approach too, without using Sketch, Datum Plane ,etc.

For some products for me look very easy how I think and what option would I use with Sketch, but if I think on that way without Sketch that will be very slowly process.

I need opinion from you guys, anyone with experience as Mold Designer, or Part Designer in NX .

Kind Regards,

Nedim D.

EDGE BLEND ISSUE

I have a problem with variable radius. When I create an edge blend, I specify the radius point and the related measure of the radius using "specify radius point" with "end point" as type filter selection; so I create the edge blend.

Then I proceed with the model history.

Many times when I come back on the edge blend and I use "edit parameters", the position of the points on the edge blend are not respected, although the geometry of the model has not been modfied.

Constraining Parts Table to Title Block or Template in Assembly Drawing

Good Morning!

My question may sound silly but I cannot constrain the parts list to the title block or to the whole template while doing the assembly drawing. I just zoom in and set it to be colineral with the title block but it still isn't constrained.

It is not a big issue but surely will be useful and make my drawings more decent.

Picture below shows the place where I want to constrain the table.

Thanks in advance.

surfacing fails by curve on surface

The example below presents a simplified issue in my real modeling.

The key objects are the two arbitrary curves on surface (Through Curves).

  • Constraints are G1 continuity with the two upright planes.
  • No constraints with the Through Curves surface.

I can't understand why they make Thru Curve Mesh fail. Hope to have your help. Thanks!

Why NX shows small and large letters ? Problem importing.

Hello

We have a part naming guide of PULxxxxx.prt in large letters ( like PUL000004, Teamcenter 11 ).

Now someone named native parts with small letters pulxxxxx.prt and NX 11 Import Assembly into TC gives an error and does not automatically change pul to large letters PUL .

How to change the small letters pul to large letters PUL ?

  • Windows says during NX Save As ERROR="same name file already exists in the folder"

I want all those pul- to PUL- before importing the assembly. How is this possible ?

Switch drawing template

Hi

I do have to work with older drawings from NX8. In the meantime our company has changed to newer methods and templates of the drawing frame. What I wanna do is keep my views and annotations and just change the drawing frame and title block.

I just can create new sheets and copy the views. But unfortunately my annotations will not copy properly.

is there a simple way to do it?

thank you

Urs

What is OM? +++tag ###### is deleted and not a class UGS::OM::Object

I am a newby to NX so I will attempt to explain my issue as clearly as possible.

I have an assembly, and when I select a component and "Make it a Displayed Part" then add a PMI hole callout to a Simple Screw Hole feature and then return to the assembly I get the attached errorEncountered unexpected NULL pointer.png

After looking at the log file the problem is identified as a Severe Error involving a UGS:Smiley SurprisedM:Smiley Surprisedbject

In order for me to find out what the missing object is, i need a little context. What is a OM object?

angle between a curve and a surface

$

I'm looing for an efficient way to confirm the tangency between a curve and a surface. As tought by @TimF in a previous post, this is key for the success of Thru Curve Mesh.

Below is a simplified model. The four edges of the Green face are all tangent to the neighbouring faces. Now let me try to measure the angle between the highlighted edge and Face_A.

Method 1

At first, I simply use "Simple Angle" to measure the angle between the edge and the face. The result "113.3380°" is apparently not what I expect (180°).

Method 2

Then I try to do it step by step:

  1. linear extension of the edge
  2. project the extended line to Face_A
  3. linear extension of the projected curve
  4. measure the angle between the two extend lines
  • The result "0.000014°" is OK.

I wonder whether there is a better way to measure the angle between the curve and the face or simply to test their tangency. Thanks!

I tried "Deviation Checking" > "Edge to Face", but was confused about how it works. Official documentation provides very limited information about the command.

math textbook recommendation?

$

I begin to think that some fundmental math would be very helpful for new guys to grasp the exact way of working of many NX commands. For example, concepts like NURBS, Bezier curve/surface, approximation, tangent/normal/binormal, curvature comb, isocline curve, continuity.

believe that, some of you, either from the development team or not, have very good training in computer graphics.

Could you kindly recommend a general textbook covering fundamental and systematic mathematics on which NX modeling mechanism is based?

Yes. All those information can be found on Internet. Still a concise, systematic and well-written textbook would be very helpful.

Thanks!

overconstraining in sketch

$

In the example below, I have a curve and a short line at first.

Then I create a sketch:

  • on the plane defined by the short line and Z axis,
  • with the line end as the origin.

In the sketch:

  • The outside curve is projected to give the grey reference curve.
  • A spline is created, starting from the reference curve.
  • Pole No.3 is constrained on axis X.

ODD: Either action below would lead to overconstraining:

  • drag the free pole No.2 arbitrarily
  • constrain the free pole No.2 on axis X

Help would be appreciated!

Solution to design a bend tube

Hi,

I've modeled a bend tube like the .prt attached, but before I tried to use the 'Combined projecton' command without success. Which solution do you use to build a bend tube like the pdf attached ?

Assembly attribute in the title block

$

Is there an attribute I can reference or other method to insert the parent name in the title block of a detail part?

e.g. In the title block of a detail part one might have....

Part Name:  pname

Scale:  1:4

Assembly: assyname

where pname is a component of assyname.

I understand this could cause problems where pname is used in multiple places, but for my purposes the parts are highly specific and are only ever used in one assembly.
