About NX 12.0.0

NX 12 removes barriers to innovation and empowers engineers to quickly achieve optimal design solutions by utilizing their full creative potential.  This release includes hundreds of end-user CAD enhancements that will increase your productivity.  One example is the simultaneous display of multiple windows, which greatly improves concurrent working methods.

Building on major enhancements introduced in NX 11, such as Convergent Modeling™, NX 12 delivers refined tools that support the generative design workflow by allowing direct manipulation of scanned or optimized facet geometry.  In addition, our close integration with Mentor Graphics Capital unites electrical, mechanical and control systems in a single integrated platform.  To support the increasing adoption of additive manufacturing, this release combines advanced tools with traditional modeling methods for designing lightweight parts, reinforcing the new capabilities with custom design validation checkers that ensure manufacturability.

Together, with Topology Optimization, non-linear solutions, and hundreds of additional enhancements in Simulation and Manufacturing, this new functionality will bolster NX's standing as the design tool of choice.

Selection of non visible items in full shaded view

In full shaded mode, during selection, it would be nice to have a partial transparent model near the selection area (let's say an improved Catia V5 way). This would be highly productive making easier to select non visible areas of the model.

Nowadays I can I input a ER?

Assign Minimum Bend Radius in NX Mechanical Routing

Hi, for Tubing Stock, the material we use is very rigid and have a different Minimum Bend Radius value which is much different than the standard which will be managed by "CURVE_MIN_BEND_RADIUS_COEFF" from APP View file.

While qualifying a stock part (add as Stock), is there a way where I can specify a different Minimum Bend Radius value for that specific stock ? Please clarify.

Using Assembly Constraints on assemblies outside of work part

I am trying constrain a part in a sub assembly by assemblying it to a part outside of my work part. I have changed the selection scope to "entire assembly".  All objects not in the sub assembly are still "grayed out" and not selectable. Does anyone of any suggestions?

Point Snaps: Tangency Point and Measure

Hi everybody,

I have 2 questions realted to point snaps:

1- Tangency Point: I want to give a parallel dimension to the inclined line in the video clip below. If i select the end point of the line, it finds the exact point of tangency. However, if I select the tangent point it picks an irrelevant point. Am I doing something wrong?

2- Measure: When I use measure for a driving dimension, I cannot snap to any point on the sketch other than the origin. Am I using "measure" command incorrectly?

Dialog window size

Hi,

is there a way for NX (currently NX11) to save / remember dialog size? I know one can set width, but that would have a global effect, all dialogs would be wide. And most of dialogs are pretty OK. But "Add Component" dialog size is so small its anoying. And it resets to its original size every time its closed and opened.

And related one is "Component Preview" window, this one at least remembers its size for the session. But still resets to a tiny window with new session.

Below: original vs. IMO proper size for Add Component dialog size.

Modified component visibility in assembly, Reference sets

$

When working in assemblies, I typically have the components set to a reference set of "Solid" so that I can have the datums and other construction geometry hidden. (The Solid reference set I created just includes the solid features of the part.)  If I want to modify a feature in one of the component parts, I have to change the reference set of that component to Entire Part; otherwise the internal sketch of that feature will not be visible.

Is there a setting or something that can be changed so that the internal sketch (not external) is visible for feature modification when I have the part set to a reference set of Solid?  I basically don't want to have to switch reference sets of a component before I modify the part.  Thanks

NX didn't create coordinate datum planes to the new part ?

Hello

NX didn't create coordinate datum planes to the new part ?

  • I clicked Create new part inside Assembly and I got this ( Picture ) there are no origo coordinate datum planes ZC, YC, XC where to create a sketch drawing.
  • Do I need to create the "origo datum planes" ?  In Autodesk Inventor the origo datum planes were always there to select. Why NX has no ZC, YC, XC datum planes ?

Slice Graphics option to reveal sketch planes

Hello,

I'm a fairly new user to NX 10, but have around 6 years of experience of other CAD programs.

I'm a user coming from Inventor, and I am missing a very convenient command! Drives me crazy.

When I enter sketching mode, and the plane on which you are skething is partly, or completely hidden by another feature/body etc I want to quickly make the sketching plane as a section view.

The thing I want to do is described here: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2014/ENU/Inventor/files/GUID-8E744EF6-A338-43CA-9813-53791E86F401-htm.html

Is there a way to do this, or do I have to create an individual section view the "ordinary way" for every time I want to do this? In inventor you simply press F7 once in sketching mode.

Interpart Expressions NX8.5-NX11 units conversion

We are preparing to transition to NX11 from NX8.5. I am working in native...

I have read thru the posts on the new way for interpart expressions but have a different issue with them.

When I open my NX8.5 part in NX11 it creates the "*_0" interparts for me but I get an error message:

error.jpg

But they did match in NX8.5, they were both constant in the child and parent (source) part files:

source.jpg

parent.jpg

Now it is making my "*_0" new expressions as Length and I can't edit them to make them Constant:

exp_list.jpg

Is there a setting I can change or a way to edit these to be Constant that I am not seeing?

I don't want to change the original exp's to Length

thanks

"Shrinkwrap" external surfaces

Hello, Is there a way to create a light weight non-linked copy of external surfaces of an assembly or part? I want to be able to create an external representation of an assembly, but don't want to have all the internal features/parts.  I want to be able to share an assembly I'm working on to others in our group, but it to be small in file size.  Thanks

Combining Parts into one single part in NX 10

Hey guys,

using NX 10 I've been trying to figure out how to use the Unite Command to combine a couple of parts into one single part in my Assembly, but for whatever reason when I want to "Select Body", I can't click on any of my parts to combine them.

I also can't find a solution on the other forums, any ideas??

NX12 license error -10097

Hello,

I've run into a problem for which I can't seem to figure out a way to handle.

When starting NX12 I get a "NX Initialization Error":

"License Error, The version of the server_id feature is incompatible with application's product version [-10097]"

Or as it's stated in syslog:

"License Error, Product version is incompatible with version of server_id feature on license server."

My license servers are working fine with NX11, and as far as I know there shouldn't be any news to licensing for NX12. It's however stated in NX12 Release Notes:

"NX 12 requires and tests for the latest version of the ugslmd vendor daemon. This vendor daemon is supplied with NX 12 and must be installed and initiated prior to starting NX 12. If an older daemon is utilized, a generic NX License Error dialog box is displayed during start-up. In addition, the syslog will contain an error message that the daemon version is older than the client."

Any suggestions on how to address this?
