Model Tree Update error.

$

Hi all,

We have a great problem in the nx11 version. When we are going back in the model tree to make some changes, and make an update some of the commands mixes up selected objects!

Example:  I change a diameter of a hole or change the size in extended sheet with 0.1mm!  in a model, and i use the edge in later to make an other sheet the selected edge changes from top to side or bottom, or perhaps the holes edge.

Or i dont need any changes i just make an update of the model and that makes every edge mixed!

In previous versions we had never such kind of an error!!!

When we get a patch to fix this error?

NX 11 clone assembly including motion files

Hi all,

Recently we changed from nx 10 to nx 11 with teamcenter 10. Before we used nx 10 and teamcenter 10.

We used to clone assemblies including a motion file in nx 10 with teamcenter 10.

With cloning an assembly in nx 11 the assembly is properly cloned. Unfortunately the motion file is not cloned.

If I do a "dry run" in the clone menu it says that motion files are included but in teamcenter the file does not show. Also when changing application to motion in nx 11 the file is without simulation.

Does anybody know a solution for this problem?

Kind regards,

Arno KleinJan

Anyone else annoyed that TC uses a registry setting to determine how to start NX?

Currently, TC uses the registry setting "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ugmportalfile\Shell\Open\Command" to determine the .BAT file used to start NX.

More an more, I am finding that annoying.  While for many users, that probably works fine, I have to deal with different TC instances (development/qual/production/etc.) which need to start NX differently (using different "start_nxmnager.bat" files).

Right now, we are using a REG command in the portal.bat used to start TC, but (I'm pretty sure) that will no longer work in a few weeks when they take away Admin access to our machines (due to the NIST requirements).

Does anyone agree with me, to the point I should file an IR/ER?

How to make a dimension equal to a driven dimension

Hi everybody,

Is it possible to make a dimension equal to a driven dimension?

To make myself clear I am attaching an image. On that sketch, is it possible to give the horizontal distance between tangent point and sketch origin (indicated as a reference dimension of 53.9) as a driving dimension for the length of horizontal line (current auto dimension is 78)?

I tried measure (please see video clip) but it didn't work.

Thanks,

conic threads

Hi,

how can I add BSPT threads to the Design Feature-Thread command?

I have added BSP thread (cylindrical) to the thd_metric.dat (image 2), but for the BSPT I would need also a column for the 'Gauge Lenght ("l1" in image 1) ; can I simply add a column to the  the thd_metric.dat?

Thankyou for helping,

L

Export STL default tolerances

I'm looking for a way to change the default tolerances when exporting an STL file (triangle tolerance and adjacency tolerance). I looked through the customer defaults and part preferences, but didn't find anything obvious. Is there a setting that controls these tolerance values? If so, where is it?

Creating Radial Hole Callout

Trying to make a hole callout.

Get the message "Creating a Hole Callout requires feature data to be fully loaded"

Have seen it befor but could still get callout for holes. This morning I can't on this part.

Have the part fully loaded... why am i getting this alarm? How can I get it to not show in the future?

Help says feature data needs to loaded into the drafting part file, but not how to do it...

Don't see anything in drafting preferences about loading feature parameters.

Thanks, Paul S.

Anti Aliasing in NX 8.5

It seems that NX 8.5 doesn't use the Anti Aliasing functions that my Nvidia Quadro P4000 offers. See screenshots below. Even after going into the Nvidia control panel and doing an "override" on the 3D settings of NX (setting Antialiasing to max) it shows now improvement in line quality.

However, going into the NX settings (Preferences > Visualisation > Visual)  and turning off "Line Antialiasing" as well as "Full Scene Antialiasing" results in an even uglier line quality.

How can I improve line quality further?

Is there a way to auto assign a face name to a face color?

Hello - I have to frequently color faces in accordance to the name of those faces.  Is there a way to automate this?  For example, I'd like to color a certain face red, and by doing so, the face's name automatically becomes "X".

Thank you.

Procedure to create drawing sheets by multiple users and then merge into single drawing.

Hi,

I have a workaround to let multiple users work on same large drawing.

However, it works only if the work area can be split into separate sheets to be later merged in to one drawing with multiple drawing sheets.

If 1234.prt is the master model (even assembly also) and 1234_dwg.prt is its final drawing, then follow below steps:

i). Copy completed model--> 1234.prt for each user in separate folder/drive (because multiple users have to add drawing sheets to same file).

ii. Ask each user to create separate sheets in his own file 1234.prt in respective locations (Don't worry, create drawing sheets temporarily in non-master approach)

iii. At the end of the work, for example after seven drawing sheet files are ready (in different locations) by different users, export each drawing sheet while in the drawing session (File-export-part) into required new final drawing file 1234_dwg.prt. Make sure you select the 'sheet' from Drawing selection in export dialog.

You might get a message like 'to preserve associativity this part will be added as a component in the destination drawing file' Choose Yes here.

2nd sheet onwards, export sheets into existing part (because 1234_dwg.prt is already created by then)

iv. Get rid of multiple copies of 1234.prt and keep original master model. Also, keep 1234_dwg.prt as final drawing in the same final location.

Let me know if it is useful & works for you.

Thanks!

Is it possible to create a color map on the face such as wall thicken analysis by NXAPI?

It should be split the faces to partitions, is it a good way to use facet body ? we can get the vertical values , but the there are no face tag for the partitions.

who knows the methodology of the Wall thicken analysis function?  does it use finite elements to divide the object ?

Any good suggestions, please advise.

Thank you.

I can't figure out the meaning of "G1 magnitude" in the Studio Spline command, even after examining the official help.

Can anybody give some clues? Thanks a lot!

Limits and Fits Dimensions in NX11

Hi,

Could someone help me in enabling the Limits and Fits type dimensioning scheme for INCH templates?

Currently, when i launch a NX session with a MM template, under Drafting Preferences-->Dimension-->Tolerance-->Type and Value, i can set the Type to Limits and Fits (H7 Limits and Fits).

However, when i do the same with an INCH template, Limits and Fits seem to be greyed out. Need this to be enabled.

Any suggestions or solution is appreciated.

Touching surface extract

First of all, sorry if it's a repost. I can't seem to find my original post.

I'm trying to find a way to extract touching surfaces from two bodies that have contact between each other. I realized the definition of the problem in topological terms is not easy especially considering rounding up/tolerance of boolean functions.

I guess the problem might be known to users who do mechanical simulation. I presume that steps would be some sort of conversion , meshing and then using unspecified nx tool that directly or indirectly can give me the surfaces that have a contact condition.

Importing CAM reuse library into Teamcenter

A couple years ago I found CAM_Reuse_Library_Samples.zip on the Siemens PLM download area.  If you search, you can still find it.  Even though it says "Reuse", it is NOT setup to be used by the Machinery Library import tool.  I managed to edit the tool in an earlier version, and tested it on native, and it imported corectly.

Fast forward to today, I was going to pull these into Teamcenter for our machine shop.  I also went thru the Machinery LIbrary downloads and got the latest files.  Now the latest Machinery Library install tool does not recognize the tweaks I did for the older version.  Rather than mess around with modifying the files again, is there a better way to import these files?  there are .prt, .krx, and .txt files within, and multiple folders full.

Using journal across multiple components at one time

$

I am currently in the process of updating an assembly which contains upwards of 2500 components. Part of that update involves modifying the layer categories for each component. As of right now, this is done by making the desired component the displayed part, and running a journal that I created which assigns each category respectively. As one can imagine, this is very time consuming and extremely inefficient.

Is there a way that I can approach this where I don't have to touch each component individually, instead running one command that modifies all of the components in one shot?

Thanks in advance

I am trying to build a reusable object, a kurt master tumbstone with 4 sides with double jaws... I am trying to get a spreadsheet that would let me decide whatever jaw opening I want when I import my wise form the reusable library...I am trying to find an example of a spreadsheet that let me enter a precise dimension... instead of a pre-define jaw opening dimensions... any clues on how to acheive that ? Right now my jaws opening are constraint with a dimension related to a user expression... thanks...

"What's New" pdf no longer supplied with new releases

$

NX 12 was released today, so I excitedly went looking for the "What's New" .pdf. To my dismay, it doesn't exist. Investigating further, it wasn't supplied with NX 11 either. The last version to include it was NX 10.

I prefer to read these on my tablet and mark up the topics that will matter to my organization once we upgrade. That's much harder to do with the web version. Additionally, with the hierarchical nature of the web version, it's very difficult to walk through the entire What's New to make sure I don't miss anything important.

Does anyone know why the pdf was dropped? Is there a good substitute?
