Fatigue and Durability

$

I have been trying to find the fatigue life of a component unnder static periodic load, but I notice that I fail to generate plots for fatigue life as duty cycles in post processing view. One of the model I used provided me with the duty cycle result , but most of the times I am unable to fetch it. Am I missing an option or something?

Upgrade from NX 7.5 TC8.3 integration to NX10 TC11.2.1

Hi Experts,

a costumer that managed large assemblies has been migrated from Nx7.5 with Tc 8.3 to Nx10 with TC11.2.1.

They notice that an Assembly Option in NX7.5 called Variant Configuration (when You open a part and want to know the Variants about this part)is not available in NX10 TC11.2.1integration .

Do You know about how to get same funcionality with new integration(NX10 TC11.2.1

Have You information about it?

Have You an example to show how to proceed?

Any suggestion will be appreciate....thanks in advanced!!

Open (Import) IGES and work with Boolean operations on it

Hello to all,

I have opened and iges (assembly) in NX. After that I have created some extrusion feature to cut imported iges but it's not possible. So I have tried to make extrusion as a new solid and to make boolean subtract operation where base will be imported model and tool will be created extrusion solid. I am not able to select imported model while operation is active.

What is the best way to import IGES geometry in NX and use it in modeling?

Best regards,

Danijel

Hi all,

can any one please provide the procedure for creating the wave geometry linker.

i have done assembly for some parts, i need to do some machining operations on that assembly. how can i do this??

i tried using wave geometry linker, seperate linked bodies are creating for each part. I need to do the machining on the assembly.

can you guys please give a suggestion on this.

Show only 1 feature from hidden layer

Hi everyone,

I am working on NX10 surface model and I have a lot of develpment layers that I keep hidden. They usually have sketches, untrims, extracted faces etc... So quite often i need some of those features visable from time to time. Every time I want to show a hidden feature (untrim surface for example) a lot of (or all) features show and become visable, the whole layer. Is this some kind of bug or I am doing something wrong ? Thank you so much for help

Move text and line at the same time

Hi,

I've a .dwg pneumatic scheme imported into a NX drawing. Now I've to edit this drawing adding and moving pneumatic texts and lines. I would like to move a group of texts and line at the same time, but I can move only curve entities. I've tried to add to a group, but move object command doesn't select text. Actually I don't have idea apart to create a temporary symbol.

Suggestions ?

Using offset CSYS with expression?

$

I revised an existing Datum CSYS to use an "Offset CSYS" type so I could rotate it about the z-axis.  I also created an expression for the rotation angle to make it easier to change, but for some reason that is not working.  The datum will rotate using the Datum CSYS dialog, but it doesn't respond to changes in the expression.  Also, if I edit the datum it always shows the Type as "Dynamic" (not Offset).  So apparently there's something I'm not undestanding with this.  What am I missing?

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

I wan't to know if you open an Solid Edge file in NX will the feauture history be remained?

And if so, will NX translate all the SE features into NX features and are they still editable in NX?

So far we saw when we opened an SE file in NX you only get an solid withot feature history.

Live link between two tables in NX drafting on two different sheets

Hy Everyone!

I have a problem to solve in NX, which I did not succeeded yet. If anyone of you could help me, I would be really thankful!

I would like to build up a standard drawing sheet "system" for our team.

In most cases we have to use more sheets. But on every sheets there are two tables which have to be the same.(One for the title, date, author name, article number, ect...; and one for keep up with changes.)
And they also have their exact position on each drawing sheets.
So basically just the views and the notes are different.

And I would like to make a live link between these tables on different sheets, to work only once.
How can i do that?
Three more important notes for it:
-In the "change table" we used to insert new lines, merge cells, when its needed.
-Ctrl+C;Ctrl+V is not an option for me, if we could do it in a more elegant way.
-We are using NX11 in Daimler environment.

Thanks forward for all your help!

Robot Motions in MCD of NX

I tried to model a robot motion in MCD, but failed miserably.

What I want to do:

The robot should move a part out of the box or for less complexity: the robot should move the green box from its left side onto the blue box at its right side.

What I tried:

1. Robot kinematics

  • I defined all components of the robot as rigid bodies and collision bodies (so that the robot does not run through itself)
  • I connected the “arms” via hinge joint and defined a fix joint between the table the robot stands on it and the robot itself
  • I defined some “prevent collision” between arms, that are directly connected to the next arm or the arm before, so that the robot can move but not run through itself

2. Movements

  • I defined a start (green box) and an endpoint (blue box) of the movement and connected them with a line
  • I assigned a point-on-curve-connection for the movement with the TCP of the robot as attachment and the created line as curve
  • I assigned an operation

The result:

Yes, looks funny, but is not a well working solution…

So what did I wrong? What did I forgot?  Is there any tutorial to model such a use case or a modelled well working assembly to get a look at it?

I only can find some tutorials with position controls for every axis of the robot, but so I would have to calculate for every single axis the position… that can’t be the solution..

My example project is attached, maybe somebody can take a look at it.

Hopefully,

Svenja

Your Opinion

I have worked in design for many years but am now a HS teacher in CAD.  There are some questions that only working professionals, not academics, can answer.  In my experience with mechanical design, using 2D is extremely minimal.  Limited to simple applications such as wiring or control diagrams.  My previous employers also did not even if you knew 2D, it was the PLM and 3D application(s) that mattered.  In my own opinion, I do not think that I need to teach 2D.  I would rather keep students' focus on Solid Edge / NX.

Can you tell me your opinion on it?

Problem printing help documentation (from Chrome)

Being new to NX, I've been referring to the help documentation a lot (via the web).  Occassionally I like to print out pages for reference, but for some reason printed pages are being scaled to about half their size (see below). I haven't encountered a problem like with any other website or web-based help documentation for that matter.  So it appears to something peculiar to the documentation website.  Any ideas what might be going on, and more to the point, how to fix it?  Thanks!

Edit vs Edit with Rollback

I have a sketch as a top level feature in an assembly, and I'm using it (via a WAVE link) to create another component in the assembly.  I'm trying to understand some behavior I'm seeing.

If I edit the sketch (without rollback) I see the profile but can not actually edit any of the geometry. However, if I "edit with rollback" I can actually edit the geometry.  Why the difference? In a regular part (component) model, I can use either to edit a sketch profile.  But for some reason it's working differently here.

Thanks for any help with this.

Drawing view update

Former Solidworks user, was asking about drawing views.  When he edits the orientation of the primary view on the drawing, the other views don't have their orientation update, like they would in SW.  He was hoping he was missing an option, but I wasn't aware of any.

Is there anything that will do this?

I'm not 100% sure what kind of reorientation he did, or how the views were placed to begin with.  I suspect the other views were projections from this first primary view.

How are you managing object display? SE to NX 10

$

Is there anything in NX 10 that works like Display Configurations in Solid Edge?

The video link below shows how easy and fast it it is to change the display of objects in the graphics area. In NX I thought Reference Sets was the answer... and it is for sub-assemblies. Then I thought Model Views was the answer but it isn't as I am trying to use it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Place an angle dimension to a point?

In the sketch environment, is it possible to place an angle dimension to a point (like you can in SE, shown below)?  It doesn't appear so, but thought it worth asking.  Thanks.
