Checking the symmetry in a 3D model

$

Hello everyone,

I have prepared a 3D CAD model and now I want to check its symmetry according to a plane (plane will be in the middle). Is there an easy way to check the symmetry of the model ? (So the tool/command will show me asymmetrical features/faces etc of the model also the ones that are perfectly symmetrical about that plane.) How can I do it in NX9 ?

Thanks in advance.

More "fun" with assembly constraints...

Hello, I assembled components and the assembly constraints didn't show any problems.  I then tried to pattern those latest components and everything looked OK on screen and in the constraint navigator - all status's show as OK.

I then switched to the assembly navigator and expanded out the Constraints section.  Now I have 19 of the red circles with x's in them showing problems.  Now I go back to the constraint navigator and go to one of the components that showed an OK status and expand the list to see how the constraints are.  All of those constraints are now shown in red for a component that has an overall status on "partially constrained" but not red.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?  Is this the ongoing mess of 12.0.1.7 or is this just NX?  As others have posted on this site about how bad the constraints are and that they don't deal with them.  I don't have that option.  We have to have everything constrained, so we have to deal with this "complication".   Unfortunately, it's a company wide standard - probably set by others who don't have to deal with NX (using another CAD system that doesn't have these issues.)

How to plot force vs displacement graph ?

Hello everybody,

I have modeled an object on Siemens NX 12. I would like to do compression test on it in FEM. Actually, I would like to deform my object until a certain value and plot the results of the simulation in a force vs displacement graph.

I think I should probably use the SOL401 but it doesn't work. Can someone help me please ? I am struggling on it since a couple of days...

Thank you,

VSweep for Dummies

Hey hey

Can someone please help me with the Variational Sweep command?

I am follow these steps

  1. Create a long spline
  2. Open the Varational Sweep dialog
  3. Select the curve
  4. Choose 0% arc length for the plane location
  5. Click OK and draw a circle on the plane, DIA 0.5 inches
  6. Exit sketch
  7. Click Add New Set in the Secondary Section area
  8. Delete 'Section 1

Then I get a interesting smear on the screen.

What I would like to do is select the diameter dimension in the second section, change that and have it create a loft between the two sections. Can vsweep do that? Or is it limited to lofting one section along a few (2+ ?) guide curves if you create sketch constraints like that in the sketch.

Hey,

How can I save lines what I write on the part family spreadsheet? When I open a spreadsheet from "Part Families", it gives me to add lines (Configurations) of the family members. But it wont save if I hit save and close it. Next time I open the same sheet, it´s empty.

I did watch some youtube videos of creating these family members, but not yet succesfully created anything. In that video below he have a "Family save directory" option at 12:35min...I dont have that option in my "Part Families tool.

Hi

I'm testing out this "embedded" Spreadsheet,  Tools>Utilities>Spreadsheet.

It seems I'm missing some "NX tools" inside the embeded Excel that opens after clicking the Spreadsheet button in Modelling application.

I quote from the documentation:

https://docs.plm.automation.siemens.com/tdoc/nx/1872/nx_help/#uid:xid1128416:index_spreadsheets:id1368583:tools_tls_spd_mod_ov_r:tools_tls_spd_mod_create_p

"Now select Tools→Extract Expr from the spreadsheet menu bar." ????

Where is this Extract Expr(ession)?

Thread feature data that use thread hole feature data

Hi,

thread feature uses different file respect the thread hole feature. Do you think that it could be a good improvement that thread data should have the same data, for example, the nx502_Threaded_Hole_Standard.xml file?

, exist an ER for this case? If not I'will open one and share here if someone thinks like me.

Spaceball Performance Different between two NX Sessions

We currently run NX11 and also have GM Native Toolkit. If we open the same files (from our server) in GM Native Toolkit and in our company NX native session, our spaceball performance is a lot slower/chopped in GM Native Toolkit. We looked at some of the visualization settings but changing them did not change the speed of the graphics. Anyone have suggestions to look at?  We use Nvidia Quadro P2000 spaceball. Thanks in advance!

SPLM License Server for Server 2012 or 2016

We have a Windows 2008 server (not even R2, just 2008) that I need to decommission. It has the SPLM License server on it (v5.3.1), along with LMTools. We have a couple of NX users that need it. They chose not to renew NX support. I am unable to get the SPLM license server program to install on 2012 R2 or 2016 (Installer UI Mode Error). I've tried all of the compatibility stuff......I'm just going to assume I need something more up-to-date. Can you download a more recent version of the SPLM license server without a support contract? They run version 8.5 of NX, does the SPLM license server care what version of NX you run?

Cylindrical dim, using baseline in 1847+

Not often I do this, but I have a detail view, taken from a section view, and I'd like to add a cylindrical dimension (snap ring groove).  Where did the baseline selection go?

Per https://solutions.industrysoftware.automation.siemens.com/view.php?sort=desc&p=1&q=detail+view+cylindrical+dimension&file_type=html&i=001-0582273&k=11&o=0

Creating a Diameter Dimension to a detail made from a section view
Symptom
---------------

When dimensioning a section through a circular object in a plane perpendicular
to the plane of the arc or circle, how can a diameter dimension be created if
the entire object is not shown in the view?
Hardware/Software Configuration
Unigraphics V10.X and higher
Solution

Use the Cylindrical dimension type and specify a Baseline. In Unigraphics V11
and higher, there is a Baseline Icon under the 'Line Type Widget' on the
'Dimension' palette.

Select the part centerline as the Baseline first, then the edge of the object.

What/where is this "Line type widget"?

Hello all
I am curretly working with expressions and UDF in NX 9:
My Problem statement is,
Expression:
a=8
b=9
c=10
d=11
Diameter=a or b or c or d
In UDF I wish to give these predefined expression as options.
Is it possible to give these expression names as option in UDF?
e.g
UDF:
Diameter: a
b
c
d

Plane from 4 points --> how to generate a point set manually?

$

Hi,

My usecase is as follows: I have 4 points measured from a CMM, through which I want to create a plane. From this forum I've found that the correct command for this would be 'Fit Surface' --> Fit Plane. So far so good.

Since it's only four points, I've just manually added them as datum points using coordinates. The trouble is: the 'Fit Surface' command does not let me select them.

Also on this forum I've seen various posts where this was fixed by using a 'group' or 'set' of points. However I have not been able to locate a command to actually create this group or set from datum points --> how do you do that?

- point set only takes curves or surfaces or planes as input

- making a 'feature' group of the points does not work and is probably also not what is intended

- 'point group' only gives a hit for drilling in manufacturing

- creating points from the curve tab gives similar behaviour: the points are not selectable

- I have no selection filters turned on, it's really to do with the input that the 'fit surface' command accepts.

Smiley Frustrated

It's probably something really simple that I"m missing, so perhaps someone can help me out?

Automatic Export PDF for Nx 11 Detailing drawings

Hello

Nx 11 > Detailing > File > Export > PDF > `Export PDF Dialog box

I created Nx 11 detailing Journal for automatic creation of PDF's in 5 page drawing. I found one issue with this since i can use this journal only for 5 page drawing.

If i tried to use this journal for pages

(1) greater than 5 pages then it is ignoring the pages from 6th,

(2) less than 5 pages then Nx throwing an error messages and no pdf's created.

This is because of there is no option to select all the sheets in Nx 11.

Is there any other options to override this issue.

thanks in advance
