Evaluating cross sectional areas of a hollow tube at distances along length?

I have a hollow tube with varying OD and ID throughout its entire length along axis X. Is there a way in NX for me to see the cross sectional area of the tube at specific increments along the X direction?

 

The "Section Analysis" tool doesn't seem to have the cross sectional area option, and the "Section Inertia Analysis" doesn't seem to function with hollow tubes either. It either gives me an error saying "hollow shapes are present" or "no sections could be analyzed. Is the section object face the cross sectional surface or the surface along the length? 

 

Attached is an example of the tube I am trying to analyze. In this case, the cross sections should be parallel to the YZ plane and normal to the X axis. Thanks!

"Studio Surface" guidelines?

In a previous thread,  made some very helpful comments on Studio Surface: The studio surface "will always attempt" to create an as simple and clean surface as possible.
 
With this in mind, I try my best to use Studio Surface to replace Thru Curve Mesh. But it always seems to be a little like a lucky draw.
 
In the example below, the starting curves seem to be not too bad.
 
  • Studio Surface gives a simple surface, with unacceptable kink.
  • Thru Curve Mesh gives a complex surface, with visually good smoothness.
 
Q: Are there any guidelines on refining starting curves to make Studio Surface work?

Suppres message "new iray+ ray......"

Hi all,

 

does anyone know if there is a setting the default hide the messages:

"new iray+ ray traced studio rendering" 

This messages pops up when opening a old part in NX11 and higher.

 

Is there a varaible that can be set?

perplexing "Advanced Curve Fit"

I have a Combined Projection curve in the early stage of my model. To improve its quality, I enabled Advanced Curve Fit function.

 

When I zoomed the model big in the later stage, I sadly found that Advanced Curve Fit introduced a disastrous inflextion point to the curve. This makes me greatly concerned about use of "Advanced Curve Fit".

Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Delay of 5 minutes to calculate an offset or a blend.

We are using NX11 in the company.

I'm working on a part with a lot of blends and if I want to change a blend or do an "Offset Face", it takes aprox. 5 minutes until NX has calculate that it's possible or not to apply the feature I want.

When I take a look on the performance of the CAD station (Task Manager) I see that there are only 2 cores used, the other 2 are on 1%. 

Isn't it possible to "activate" the 2 other cores if necessary? Or are we using workstations with a bad configuration?

We have DELL Precision 7520 with i7 - 16GB Ram - NVIDIA Quadro M2200 - Windows10

NX Stress Wizard - is it possible to edit mesh/loads/constraints without repeating all the steps?

Hi,

 

I have a simulation done with Stress Wizard. Is it possible to reopen it in Stress Wizard and edit (for example change the mesh size and force value)? I tried for quite a long time, and I can only create new loads and change material. I cannot however change the mesh size or load values.

I know I can edit it with 'Design' application, but it requires another license bundle. Ideally, I'd like to reopen the analysis in Stress Wizard, edit the mesh/loads/constraints and recalculate the solution without running 'Design' module at all. Is it possible?

If not, does it mean, that in Stress Wizard we can set up analysis only once and in case of changes we have to re-create it from scratch?

Why do features affect surfaced faces?

Hello.

 

 

Why does the surface face I created change geometry when I add an edge blend to my model and how do I prevent it from happening?

 

I'm modeling vanes for an impeller. I created the vanes by using surfaces. Once I have the vanes how I want them, I want to add an edge blend so it "attached" to the hub plate of the impeller. As soon as I add the edge blend between the vanes and the hub plate, the geometry changes. Causing my vanes to be out of the tolerance field.

Creating an Assembly with Part Family as Components - Getting Error Part is Temporary

Dear Forum,

 

I am creating an assembly with components made from part families.  When I replacement a component within the assembly with another part within the same part family NX is throwing an error stating, "The following components were excluded from the replacement operation:  Part is temporary".  Will NX not replace a component of a part family with another part within the same part family?

Freeing a hung license

Had a license get hung this morning, so the topic of how to free them up came them up.  IT was aware of the command "

lmutil lmremove -c 28000@LicServer NCFOUND Administrator tcuaets tcuaets0.0"

 

But in my searching, I found an old thread talking abouta  utility that allows a right click option.  Link for utility is broken, but does this exist out there?

Generation of drawing from developed sheet metal with coordinate points table

Hi everyone

I need to generate a detail drawings from a sheet metal assembly with a volute geometry (see image 1), and it is composed of various curved sheets and all the assy must be welded, my questions are:

1.How can i get a drawing with a view (i.e. top view) of a sheet metal with coordinate points on non linear curves and its respective table (see image 2)?.

2.How can i get a drawing with a flat pattern view with coordinate points on non linear curves and its respective table (see image 3)?.
The company where I work, we need to make drawings of similar geometries to the examples, and i can´t find a quick way to get this coordinate points and coordinates tables on drawings views.

Through Curve mesh Continuity

Hello, I started to use NX recently, and I have a doubt about Through curve mesh continuity. 

I was designing a bottle and I used "Through Curve mesh" to create the body. When I make G1(tangent) in the continuity group, with another face of the bottle the model volume differs when there is no G1 continuity constrained.

My problem is that, does G1 (Tangent) continuity constraing has a effect on model volume of the design?

I hope I made myself clear to you guys, if not please tell.

Mirrored body and different mass

Often the following bug(?) occure:

 

I made a mirrored body to 2d part and when I making weight calculation I see that Area,Volume and Mass characterisics are different between this two mirrored parts. Is it a bug?

Copy feature expressions

I am trying to figure out a way to take Expressions from one feature and apply them to another without typing it in one by one.

 

I constantly work with others who will use the hole or pocket command several times and do not link them together. I was hoping to find a way to quickly replace the expressions without having to manually type them in.

For an example there is a Pocket attached. I want to be able to take the feature parameters and apply them to other pockets in the model without having to edit each individual pocket.

 

I dont like exporting it to Excel due to it taking to long for the program to load, I have also tried exporting the expressions to the exp. file and editing it with notepad+ but again its me manually editing them. I am looking for more of a Copy and Paste method.

overconstraining in sketch-II

Since the previous thread, I often ran into troubles with constraining sketch. Very often quite some time was
spent on adjusting here and there without definite direction, and suddenly the issue was gone. This made me trapped in anxiety everytime creating a sketch with splines to be constrained.
 
Below is an example, in which you are told "Sketch nees 0 constraints" and in fact the angle (34.2°) is free. If the angle is fixed, the sketch is onverconstrained.
 
I found how to fix it after try-and-error ---- simply moving the driving dimension "b=30.0" to other objects, e.g. the short line in the middle. But I don't know why it works. That means, I don't know whether I can have good luck to fix similar issue next time.

Help with creating a nest between two bodies.

Hello Everyone. I am a new NX user. Most experience is with the CAM side. Looking for a direction to go in for this problem. We are manufacturing small medical components. This requires a nesting fixture. In the pics I have projected the profile of the component and extruded the profile up. The nest is the extracted faces of the component. How can I join these two so it is a solid? I have tried Extrude/Subtract.I know how to create a ribbon surface between the two I can machine to but it is hollow inside and would prefer a solid. Any help is appreciated.

Angular magnitude displacement selection does not exist in XY Result tool?

There was angular magnitude displacement selection in NX8 motion graphing tool. Graphing tool has replaced with XY result tool in newer NX versions. Angular magnitude displacement selection does not exist in XY Result tool. I need to plot angular magnitude displacement. Does anyone know how to do it in NX11.0.2?aaa.PNG

NX MCD Capacitive sensor? Check material during simulation

Hi,

 

I have a question about Siemens MCD V12.

 

I have 2 blocks :

- First block = PVC

- Second block  = aluminum.

 

Those two blocks are on the same conveyor. I would like to separete them.

I would like to have an capacitive sensor.

Does someone know how to create that sensor in Siemens MCD?

Check the body at collision material?
