More Assembly Constraint behavior

$

Can someone please explain some constraint behavior that I have trouble understanding the logic/reasoning for how NX operates?  Specifically for this post:

1st - why does there have to be a difference in align or tough when referencing an axis when assembling a bolt or other cylindrical component?  I know there is preferred touch, as well, but does the direction of the axis really have to make that much of a difference?  I've just dealt with another CAD software that the direction of the axis didn't matter.  As long as the axis was selected, it could deal with it. (Intuitive - user friendly).  With NX, the constraint will fail and I'll have to switch the constraint from touch or align.

2nd - when assembling two parts to each other, it would be nice if NX could figure out that it would make more logical sense for two "solid" parts to actually be assembled next to each other instead of in each other (as shown in the screenshot).  I know there is the "prefer touch" option, but that seems to have more trouble when axis are also used to make another constraint.

What prompted this post is that I was trying to assemble one bushing into a hole.  I noticed in the constraint navigator that several components constraints had flaked out - were showing as in having a problem.  All I had to do was to change one constraint for an axis from "tough" to "align" and the problems cleared up.  If NX didn't have a problem with axis direction, it seems like that would be at least one thing with NX constraints that would make it easier to deal with.  Thanks

controle string expression in deformable part

Hi all,

For so far i can find then it's only possible to control "number" expressions in the deformable part.

But does some one have t trick to also control a "string" expression in a deformable part.

This is for a text label that needs the same part name but contains different text in a assembly.

Updating a part family

OK, so I imported John Baker's combination wrenches, and sockets, into our Teamcenter Database, and the users(me) noticed that db_Part_Name was the Teamcenter ID, and not all that descriptive.  I want to update the family, so db_part_name is a description of the wrench, but when I do, I get the following error.  I have tried both as myself (user) and as dba, with the same result.  Any thoughts on this?   ?

Hi, I have created some reusable object like .. a recycling logo or any other logo as an extrusion.. which I want to use from the library.. when I import it.. I locate the part/logo at a certain position on my model based on a sketch that I did to certain point to have my desire position.. but if I modify that sketch I would like to have that reusable object to follow so I can change the reusable object position.. is that a posibility ?

Hello everyone

Does anyone have any idea what this error means?
I'm starting to work with NX 12.00 but
I was some days working with this file (draft)
and today I can not open it to continue and it shows me

I am using femap/nxnastran with basic nonlinear FEA (SOL106). I want to calculate the structural response at the below loads. can I do it? or must I use advanced nonlinear solution (SOL106)?

Surface Fillet / Edge Blend (Single Surface)

Hey Folks

I have surface. I would like to make a fillet on (1) the outer corner of the surface and (2) an inner corner.

I can achieve (2) through the use of the Circular Blend command. Any idea how I can achieve the same on an internal corner? The sheet would have to be extended then cut. Hopefully there is a one-stop tool to do this. See attached picture for my example.

Thanks

Problem modifying or creating a section (Pre-NX 8.5) drawing imported from I-deas

I have a drawing and assembly that were both imported from I-deas.  The migration to NX created some problems on the drawing.  Whenever I try to do anything to the section views - in this case I want to hide some extra geometry - I get the error message: "Exact (Pre-NX 8.5) Section View, 4-Section A-A, did not update."  I also deleted the section view and then tried to re-create it and I get the same message.  Even when I try to create any section view, the message appears.  Does anyone have a solution?  Thanks.

Why is option "At Angle to XC" not associative?

Hi,

I am trying to make a CSYS based on Absolute CSYS using option "Z-axis, X-axis, Origin". To set X-axis direction, I pick the option "At Angle to XC" and use previously defined expression (called XCangle).

The new CSYS is located propperly, but when I try to edit the expression afterwards it does not work. When I edit the new CSYS, it shows that X axis vector is fixed:

So the connection to the expression has been lost (or never established?).

Could somebody explain this unexpected behaviour? Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I know I can make it associatively with "Offset CSYS" option. I am just wondering why it does not work with "At Angle to XC" option.

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I try to open files from ST10 in NX 11 but there error appear:

the following files could not be loaded, causing this open to fail...

th part file is from a newer version of the application than the one supported by NX

Parameters of plastic injection

Best regards
I am simulating the process of plastic injection in Nx with the objective of obtaining the parameters of injection at the foot of the injection machine, in order to obtain the parameters of injection (temperature, time, volume, injection pressure, among others). I have the following concerns:
What is the solver to simulate the injection process?
Does Nx use finite elements or finite volumes?

thanks for your help

Hi,

i need to measure the distance between 2 Axis from different parts in an assembly.

Issue is, i've a sinario that the parts has morthan 200 axis with unique name.

its hard to select the axis by visually indentify every time.

is there a way in NX to select by choosing the names of Axis.

Hi,

I want to know is there any option on NX journal to find and export PDF drawings from a big assembly (contains min component of 500+), i want a jounal which automatically search the drawings and export the file as PDF for complete assembly.

Kindly hepl me to find this

Copy tracelines from one explosion to another.

Hi all,

Looking for some help regarding explosions and tracelines.

I have an assembly that is 90% identical aside from some minor differences with part orientations.

There is a standard setup, then a non-standard setup. I have created a new explosion "standard" within its own custom view with its tracelines. I now want to duplicate this explosion to a new custom view with the tracelines brought through thus allowing me to move the parts required in the non-standard explosion without effecting the standard one.

I am nearly there as I have sucesfully made the new custom view and copied the explosion to a new explision, but the teace lines have not come through... Smiley Sad

Please can someone enlighten me if copying the traceliens through is possible.

Regards,

Matt

graphical glitches

$

I have a handful of older parts (last saved in NX 7 or earlier) that have some weird graphical glitches. It appears that some facets are missing or rendered incorrectly and it changes as the part is rotated. The part passes all the pertinent examine geometry checks. I have opened a good part and copied over the visualization and facetting settings but that did not help. I tried refiling the part and regenerating the view. I have tried out various other graphic settings and I also updated my graphics drivers to the latest certified by Siemens. Whatever the issue is, it appears to be part specific; only some of the older parts show this behavior.

Attached is a sample part (a small screw model), it is saved in the state that I originally opened it (except that it is now in NX 9 format because I had to delete out some company specific information). My purpose for this post is 2 fold:

  1. If you have run into this before and know the solution, please post it!
  2. If you open the attached file and it renders correctly for you, please let me know. This would indicate to me that it may be a hardware issue rather than a part settings issue.

Thanks!
