I want to route a pline, but I want the spline to stay within one plane.
E.g.: the spline can move in the X-Y plane, but should not move in Z direction.
How do I set that up ?

hiii,
May i know the difference between the STEP files and IGES files for better understand.

Hi, Where I work, the name of the part is under the Description column in the Assembly Navigator.
Below is how we do it now.
How to find a component if you only know a part of its name
Right click on the Description header in the Assembly Navigator > Click Expand all
Right click on the Description header in the Assembly Navigator > Click Export to Browser
In the Browser
Control F and search
Note the Part Number of your results
In NX
Go to Assemblies > Context Control > Find Component
Click the “From List” button, and put it the Part Number
Right click on the Description header in the Assembly Navigator > Click Expand to Selected
Is there a faster way?
Thanks, John
NX 10, Teamcenter 10.
I am having some trouble creating a new part in an assembly (modeling in place). I have "Assemblies" selected for the application. I have the upper most assembly selected as the work part. I have "Entire Assembly" selected in the box (not sure what to call this box). Then, I select "Create New" in the Assemblies tab. As soon as I do this, a window pops up for me to fill in the part name and ID, etc. Also, the box where "Entire Assembly" was selected, has converted to "Within Work Part". After I fill out all of the Name and Attribute fields in the new window, and hit OK, another window pops up. It is the "Create New Component" window and it is asking me to Select an Object. When I select and object, that object is then a component of my new component in the heirarchy. And nowhere am I prompted to select a face to sketch on. I just have a new component that contains another copy of existing components.
What I am actually trying to do is sketch on the face of an existing component to create a new part.
Thanks.
Hello,
I'm currently working in company products Part Family and I would like to know if it is possible to generate thumbnails and previews of each part file through Part Families spreadsheet "Create Part" function.
I'm currently using NX11 with no teamcenter
Thanks in advance

I sure hope there is way to turn these blasted "help" tips offs. I'm trying to place simple dimesnions using the Rapid dimension tool. When I select my first object a label displays on the screen- for each element. This really clutters the screen up and forces a person to move them out of the way to actually see where you are placing the dimension.
I'm guess there is a preference somewhere??
I'm desiging a part for my friends small business and she wanted me to put her Logo on it. She sent me a DWG file of the logo. I imported it to my part and it automatically centered it right on the origin, which is not where i wanted it. After the most roundabout way possible I got a sketch of her logo that looks perfect and is exactely where it is supposed to be, but when I go to extrude it, NX says my input selection is invalid, but gives no reason as to how it is invalid. My process went like this:
1. Import dwg file to curves which center themselves on the origin
2. Use "copy existing geometry" to turn those curves into a sketch (uses splines)
3. Copy that sketch and pasted it on the surface where I want the logo
4. Used "scale curves" to scale that sketch down to the right size
5. Used the move command under the right click menu to move the scaled curves to the approriate location
6. Used the "copy existing geometry" command (again...) to turn those curves into a sketch again.
7. Used the auto-constrain feature to constrain the sketch.
8. After doing all of that I deleted everything except the final sketch.
I realize there are probably about 1000 ways to do that better than I did, but at my new job we use Creo and i havent used NX in a while. Maybe its the process I used, maybe not. Either way does someone have an idea of what is wrong or perhaps a more direct way to do this?
If it helps I had the same error when trying to extude a sketch with like 15 hexagons (mimicing a bee honeycomb). I cut the number of hexes in half and it worked fine.
Thank you.
Hi,
We were supplied an assembly file of a compressor impeller. The file contains the impeller in final state, and 2 additional machining states.
When exporting the impeller as a .step file, both the machining states are exported as well. How do I only export the .step file in final state?
Thank you.
edit: Keeping the 2 additional machining states under "always suppressed" seems to have fixed it.
Hi
I'm creating a drawing template in NX12 and I want to include tolerances in a title block that are assigned based on picking a certain tolerance band. so for example I would have Fine (A) Medium (B) and Coarse (C) tolerances, when I create the drawing border, I'd like to be able to pick one of these of a list of values and this in turn would populate other cells in the title block with the values of the the tolerances.
E.g
Tolerance 0 to 50mm 50mm - 150mm 150mm - 500mm
Tol grade A: +- 0.05mm +-0.15mm +-0.25
Tol grade B: +- 0.15mm +-0.25mm +-0.5
Tol grade C: +- 0.25mm +-0.5mm +-0.75
So the first column (tolerance) would be selected or entered by the user either during populating the title block or as a mandatory attribute and the numeric values would automatcally populate the title block.
There's plenty of attribute stuff I've found when searching but I can't find anything that relates to what I'm trying to do. Any help woud be appreciated.
Cheers

I have question, forgive me if my terminology is wonky, I'm new at NX. I'm working in a part model, and whenever I run my cursor over geometry, the "latest" extrusion, or sometimes the entire body, lights up bright orange (see attached). Is there a way to turn this off? Especially when I zoom in to work with sketch geometry, it really obscures what I'm doing. Thanx for all your help!
Ed
OK. As a long time user of NX going back to the days of UGII Version 8..I'm a bit frustrated at Parts List! It used to be a pretty straight forward tool.
There are a couple (Ok more than a couple) things I'd like to address (I'm hoping that these are simply just things I've forgotten):
1. How to determine which parts list template is being used.
2. What's the point of Save As Template if you can't identify the parts list?
3. How do you change an existing parts list to an template you just saved?
4. Why does the software give your template a different name then the one you define? (i.e. You give the Template the name: "assembly_metric.prt" and NX renames it "assembly_metric_metric.prt")
5. Why is NX still using a .prt type extension for parts list definition?!
6. If you import the part where is the "Parts List information only" option gone?
7. Why can't reorder to columns? I can select the columns, get the move/drag indicator but nothing works. It appears a little Key icon appears at the bottom- it's trying to tell me something but who knows what? It used to be a simple list and you move the column up or down the listing.
8. Why do the fonts get converted back to default instead of what was saved with template?
9. Many, many other issues...
Hello guys,
I´m drafting in NX12 some operation sheets. I´m making the header of the op sheet with a tabular note that should be exactly the same on each sheet (only thing changing is sheet number).
How do i set up a header that, when updated in one sheet, it gets updated on every sheet? I´m pretty sure this should be possible.
Thanks.
All,
One quick question. Is there a faster way to SAVE AS existing Metrics Drawing Sheet templates into Inches Drawing Sheet Templates?
I tried using ug_convert_part to convert the parts of metric templates and then imported the converted INCHES parts into Teamcenter. But when I opened the drawing sheet, it's unit is still showing Metrics and even In-Part Unit Info is unclear.
Any idea how to create similar templates in inches, by using metric sheet templates?
Hi all,
I create a drawing with some dimensions. The dimension texts always are in the center of the dimension line. I want to adjust the position of dimension texts. How can I do it?
Suddenly a weird thing with my NX:
When A.prt is opened in NX, I go to File Explorer and double-click B.prt. Now B.prt is opened in NX, but the NX window is still in the background and not activated to the front of File Explorer.
I thought that it might be caused by my mouse. When I tried to open a part file in File Explorer with the Enter key, the issue was still there.
Anything wrong? Thanks!
[ADD] When I have 3 part files open in my NX, closing one part file would make the No Part page appear and the other open part files need to be switched on manually.
Hello guys, how are your?
I need some help here. I'm trying to do a draft from a model that I drawed, but when i try to do a cut in this draw, a error shows up and i can't carry on. someone could help me?
Hi,
Is it possible to exclude certain features that have been united with the rest of the solid body from a section view?
I've got 2 rings revolved. In between the rings I've created a surface for impeller vanes. The vanes have been united with the 2 revolved rings making the whole part 1 solid body.
How do I exclude the surfaces and everything from a section view so that I only section the 2 revolves?
Is it possible or should I just find an easy way to work around this by inserting a "copy" part into the drawing of the 2 revolves and then section that?
Thank you.

Have a part family assembly in NX 12 with a failure to create error "An attempt was made to associate an object with a second other object". Anyone know what this means?
Thanks
