I am planning to buy a new workstation, and I am wondering what specs would accelerate my models the most. What I'm primarily unsure of is whether a CPU with high single threaded performance, like an Intel Core i7-8700K (or soon to be released i9-9900K) would be better than one with high core count, like a Core i9-7980XE (18 core). I guess it depends on how multi-threaded NX is. Any thoughts? An application like this seems ripe for multi-threading, but for various reasons they often aren't.
I'm hoping to overcome some sluggish performance I've noticed in some of my models. It's especially prevalent in models containing patterns of variational sweeps (and especially if the pattern count is high). No doubt lots of calculations going on with that, but I'm hoping the right hardware will be able to cope better. Thanks for any feedback on this.
