Advice on modeling an assembly with multiple arrangements.

I need to model an assembly that contains two subassembies (say A and B). Each subassembly has two versions (A1, A2, and B1, B2).  I would like to easily (and robustly) look at the different arrangements (i.e. A1 B1, A1 B2, A2 B1, A2 B2). The model needs to be fully parametric since it will ultimately be linked with an FEA code for analysis and sizing of certain components.

I'm not sure how best to go about this, but my current thinking is to create a master assembly with all the parts (A1,A2,B1,B2) and then use assembly arrangements to define the 4 different configurations. As I understand it, I can surpress the parts not required in each arrangement. I also plan to use layout sketches in the master to size parts A and B so they fit together properly. Is this a reasonable approach?  If so, any pitfalls I should look out for?

I've never used assembly arrangements before, so I thought it worth asking here before plunging in, in case there's some flaw in my plan.  Thanks for any feedback on this.
