NX Drafting Output Date MM/DD/YYYY

I made a template border and in the revision history for the date column I would like it to ouput the date in the form MM/DD/YYYY. I changed this in the settings > format. Category set to "Date" and Date Type set to "mm/dd/yyyy", but this doesn't seem to work. When I populate the title block it lets me input text or the date in another type. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
