trim multiple bodies at once

How can I trim multiple bodies at once?

I either need to trim multiple BODIES in one trim, or I need to trim one body (that contains multiple bodies) in one trim....I'll explain

The simplest way to explain is you know how you can "clip" your model, and adjust a plane so that it cuts through all of your parts?  Well I actually need to measure the volume of what is left after my clip view, that's my end goal.

So Instead of cliping my view, I actually need to trim my part, but the part contains 1,000 little parts.

I can't do 1,000 trim features.....

So I linked all of these 1000 parts into another model but chose "ONE FEATURE FOR ALL BODIES" ....
Now in a seperate window I have a single body, but it's actually the 1,000 parts.

Even though this is a single body I can't trim it with a plane.  I'm thinking because some of the parts that make up the single body are outside the trim plane, and aren't physically connected to the other parts.  Imagine dumping out a bucket of marbels, I wave link all of those marbles using "ONE FEATURE FOR ALL BODIES" so I now have a single body that is a bunch of marbles that are seperated, I'm thinking this seperation is what's causing this not to trim.

Any suggestions?
