Altering the color of a feature's faces but not the feature itself.

Hi, 

Is there a possibility to quickly select a feature's faces and change the color only of those faces and not the feature itself? Not right-clicking the feature and choosing Assign Feature Color that would show up in the color column in part navigator. (I also wish to select all the faces of the feature as fast and easy as possible).
