Dear NX experts out there,
I'm looking for a way to create a closed surface (e.g. a Faceted Body) in NX directly from an imported Point Cloud.
The example Point Cloud has been generated as a helix with random deviation of the point coordinates in X and Y and a systematic deviation in X. See the attached picture about what I figured out so far:
- With "Fit Surface (Cylinder)" it is straightforward to fit an ideal Cylinder that shows the systematic deviation, but the random deviation information is lost.
- With "Fit Surface (Freeform)" you are not able to use the whole Point Cloud at once, but you have to segment the point cloud manually and put some additional effort into getting a closed surface from the segments afterwards...
- What I want is a closed surface with facets using the Points from the Point Cloud as vertices. With 3rd-party software like MeshLab this is possible rather easily, so I wonder if NX has this functionality also available and I have just overseen it? Or do we always have to rely on 3rd-party software for this task?
- Or maybe someone has already tried to attach one of the (OpenSource) Point-Cloud-processing libraries to NX?
Looking forward to any suggestions on this topic!
Cheers,
Bernhard
